online custom built systems
Anyone have suggestions for websites where I may order a custom-built system? (Too lazy to build one myself.) I got my last one from http://www.microchipcomputers.com/ , and while I got a good price, I was unhappy with the service and their lack of organization. I assume all you hardware junkies on ...

Serious disk issues
I set up three computers at home on a Linksys going to a cable modem. All was well in Jah's Network Land until I tried installing a simple sound driver on my Win2k Server box. Big mistake! The system would not load regularly, in safe mode or from the last good config. It just blue-screened and showe...

cable modem madness
Argh! I'm trying to rewire some cable through the house from the splitter to a room on the other side using about 150 feet of cable. I read that thin coaxial cable has a maximum transmission distance of 100 meters before significant signal degredation, and I'm confused as to why the cable modem will...

not sure
I just want something that is real frickin easy on my eyes, because lately I have been trying to read whole books on the computer. It doesn't work too well with my current monitor (some flickering 15" piece of garbage).

My poor, poor eyeballs!
Ouch, my eyes hurt! Think I need a new monitor. I read on this thing for hours and hours, and boy are my retinas, not to mention my temples, killing me. I must get a flat-screen, so that I can read for hours on end with no fear of such annoying pain. I hear they are just peachy. Anybody got recommen...

thanks guys
Great tips, people. Thanks. That upload limit will definitely nix my plans of hosting sites from home. I could go with the DSL, which from the promotional material seems geared at small businesses and suggests that web hosting and running servers is okay. But that monthly download cap is somewhat ir...

at&t broadband ?'s
I have decided to join the world of broadband. After searching through the pcabuser posts about at&t's cable internet offerings, I am still left with a few questions. Perhaps all you nice people can give me your hard-earned opinions: 1) On their website, at&t claims that to use multiple comp...

Let's see, I can think of several ways to spend this... 1) At least 6 nights of hardcore drinking. 2) Paying for 5 New York City subway fare violations (one is $60; ouch! I'll never do that again). 3) Buying some furniture that isn't second-hand and doesn't suck. 4) Getting a really big back-up hard...
