You are very correct: the uber-red "X" is very ubiquitous and is oft-emulated.

I keep my computer on my dekstop, just to the right of my mousepad, and about 15" away from my head, and ears. Luckily I 7-Volted the CPU fan, so its very quiet now. My LAN case, the one that I really modded, however, resides in the cubbyhole of its desk.

Are you using the stock heatsink/fan that came with the CPU? If so, you should upgrade to a better heatsink. I am fairly certain that most Socket A heatsinks will fit a Socket 370 board, but you cant always be sure. I know that this heatsink can be used on Socket 370 processors and is getting excell...

I would say my greatest fear is water where I cannot see bottom. Doesnt matter if its 800 feet deep or 2 feet deep; if I cant see bottom I'm freaked out, because I can always imagine some unseen thing wrapping itselg around my leg or something... ugh My only other fear is spiders. Except for jumping...
