I just hope that AMD can stay in the market. Even companies like Microsoft are laying people off now. The new AMD Phenom II CPU looks to be a winner with lots of overclocking headroom. Has anybody tried one yet?

Bite your tongue! AMD is getting better all the time and don't forget Intel's unfair marketing practices. I'll never buy an Intel chip or machine if I can help it!

Long live AMD

I'm building another holiday project and I have on hand my new favorite CPU - the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition. I picked it up from TigerDirect on black Friday for just $99. :p arty

I like light shows too...

Hey joeyll: Your RaidMax mod on the Scorpio 668 case sounds great. It would be nice to see some pictures. The trick I found with digital cameras and low light conditions (to capture the cool interior lighting effects) is to have the camera on a camera stand. It has to be stable when you press the sh...

Cool switches

I recommend you install a lighted LED switch, such as the Vandal Resistant Illuminated Switch that you see here: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/images/products/MPI002B1_t.jpg http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=118&products_id=784 Several col...

Seems silly to tape it up. I wonder if you would kill the fan power by cutting one of the LED leads? Are they wired in series with the fan motor? We'll never know until somebody tries it. Anyway, I also recommend you just replace the fan. You can probably find a quieter one on-line, and then you hav...

Gee, only 2 years goes by...

...and somebody adds another comment. This topic might live for a decade.

Anyway, my current favorite CPU is the Athlon 64 X2 3800+, which is a dual core of course. Nothing beats an AMD CPU for value, power, and things of this nature. :D

I prefer Avast by far. It works fine, and the home version is free.

Well Boys, I finished the Sun X-Terminal keyboard mod. Gone is the electroluminscent wire "AMD" sign, and in it's place is the "Big Al's Computers" logo! http://www.bigal-computers.net/bigal/Sun-X-Terminal-554a.JPG http://www.bigal-computers.net/bigal/Sun-X-Terminal-558a.JPG http...

I did on several cases, mostly older designs that were'nt made to be taken apart. The last one I drilled out was the Cooler Master ATCS 710; I removed the top section that had rivets front and back.

Some things just don't seem right

I don't know what to say other than to do everything you can for your family members. Things will get better down the road. I remember waking up in intensive care back in 1983, from a motorcycle accident I don't remember at all. One minute I'm riding down a major street, the next thing I know I'm in...

Yes...

...I like it. I suppose the machine could become a print / e-mail server on your network. You could enhance the storage capabilities by using USB external drives (hidden beneath the table of course). :)

That's the conclusion....

....that I came to with some of my old systems. Besides, only the newer SATA drives come with NCQ, and they are more expensive than the generic SATA drives that have been out for the last two years. With IDE drives so cheap, it's hard to justify unless you must have that last 10% speed improvement a...

Glad you figured it out. I've had Windows mess me up with a RAID driver update on my Abit A7N motherboard. I had to decline that "update" during subsequent Windows updates for a month, until another one was released that worked properly. Now Windows lets you officially decline an update so...

The best case mod....

...is the one that turns out better than you expected. Whether you're adding windows, lighting with cold cathodes or LEDs, or turning your case inside out, there is nothing better than discovering you got more than you expected. :)
