Eek. I know this is a dumb question, but was the computer running when it caught fire? Or did the fire come from something outside the computer? I'm thinking there may be fire/smoke damage... :(

Sorry, but its impossible. Most, if not all laptops have the GPU soldered on. Even if you were lucky enough to find one with an upgradable GPU, i'd be willing to bet it would probably be a proprietry thing.

Interesting. I just thought that they may have changed something low level, because according to my experience, ME is actually more stable than 98. I've been asked to do reinstalls of Windows 98 more than i have for ME.

Heh, as a Mac user myself, i will tell you that thats an old idea. In fact, people have been turning dead Mac cases into "MacQuariums", as they are called, since about 1992. And now that Apple has farmed "dummy" iMac cases (pre-flat panel iMac era) out to authorised Apple retaile...

I have the right driver installed...i KNOW that that card is an ET4000. Its an old ISA board, but still, I don't know why NT would stop me from being able to run it at 800x600..it worked fine in Windows 95b. PS: The TsengLabs board mentioned above only has 512k of VRAM...hopefully my Cirrus Logic wi...

Thanks for your info, FlyingPenguin. I had never really thought that NT would just chew up half of my RAM like that, however, for some reason, it isn't using my VRAM effectively. Back when I had my 486, in the Windows 95 days, I was able to get a resolution of 800x600 pixels at 256 colours on my old...

Is it true that...

Windows NT 4 chews up half of the amount of RAM you have, no matter how much you have? Just wondering, because i heard that from one of my friends.

I think the most abuse i've ever done to a PC would have to be either: 1. Taking the 100 meg HD out of my DEC 386, temporarily setting it up as a slave drive on my (then working) 486, putting Windows 95 OSR2 on it, putting the drive back into the 386, and then going to use it. :P The result? Well, i...
