I just upgraded from a 2100 Palomino to a 2400 Thourougbred (most my mobo can take) and to be honest there's no *real* difference. Sure it runs cooler and I get a few more 3DMark scores but in normal everyday stuff there's no discernable difference. You'll only notice a slight difference in gaming o...

As a wee follow on to the AMD vs. Intel 'debate'... My first PC had a DX2-66 from Intel in it, and while it was OK in it's day, I always had problems with it. My next PC was a Pentium 100 (woohoo!!) and initially it was fine, but over the course it became very unstable (probably due to my ineptness ...

XP2600+ with 266FSB?????
Before Christmas I saw a few sites advertising an XP2600+ with a 266FSB available for pre-order. (2.13Mhz against 2.08Mhz for the 333FSB version) Christmas came and went, and so did the listings for this processor. Is this unit actually available or was it planned then shelved by AMD? I'm only inter...

Hey Ego, Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been off the boards for a couple of weeks. Be REALLY careful with that mobo!! My friend changed his CPU (or at least attempted to!) and it had killed three CPU's (two of his, one of mine!) before I noticed the score on the PCB next to the CPU socket - ob...

Thunderbirds are go?
Does anyone know if the Compaq Aspen2 motherboard (FIC SD11 OEM) will support Thunderbird Athlons? Or will it only support the Athlon 'Classic'? I know for sure that the FIC version will support both variants. I have an ASUS K7V mobo with a 900MHz (factory locked at 750) Athlon that works fine. I al...

OK now I'm thinking that this paricular BIOS won't support the Thunderbird Athlon which is exactly the type of CPU I have. Has anybody else heard of this limitation? I remember reading that certain vendors didn't issue support for the Tbird, only the 'original' Athlon with the 512k L2 cache. Anybody...

FIC SD11 by Compaq
I'm looking for any help you can give for a what used to be a Compaq Presario 7900 series. I'm attempting to use the motherboard which is a hybrid of the FIC SD11 as far as I can tell. Only visible difference is there are two memory slots instead of three on the 'original' version. I've searched all...
