Regarding D3 and FarCry, I'd say anything from 9700Pro on up would give you an excellent gaming experience. Heck, I'm running HL2, D3, and FarCry on one of my lowly backups still using a 128mb R8500 and it hasn't really detracted from the fun of playing these games.

Considering that the price between a x800Pro and 6800GT is approximately the same, I'd get the 6800GT. The extra 4 pipes really do make a difference in performance. I myself really wanted to get a x800Pro for my #2 machine, but the 6800GT was just a better bang for the buck. Granted, movie playback ...

My roadmap is not very clear right now. I suppose the next real step is socket 939 and PCI-E. Just recently put together a box with an AMD64 3400+ and x800xt PE so I'm actually happy for a little while.
