I totally understand and agree your biggest gain would be the CPU upgrade.

Has anyone seen a USB to SATA device adapter? I have a USB to IDE works great for ghosting drives and hooking up to get data off Laptops and Desktop drives both. I have read some people suggest leaving that out overnight to clear and/or reset defaults

I've heard that to or atleast leave it disconnected for 30 minutes+.
