I disconnected the hard drive and there's no freezing anymore. It says no hard drive detected. The keyboard responds now so it looks like it was a hard drive problem afterall. I don't know anything about replacing hard drives. I have a spare HD around which is a Maxtor D540X-4K. Is it by any chance ...

Desktop freezing at Dell logo

I have a Dell desktop that freezes at the Dell logo. I can't access BIOS or do anything for that matter so I'm assuming I can rule out a hard drive failure?

Anyway, I'll be opening it up soon. Anything to look out for?

For those of you who loved Diablo 2, would you say D3 lives up to it?

I have the game but I haven't bothered playing much of it because my computer gives me framerate lag even on lowest settings.

Gaming Desktop Recommendations

So I'm looking to get a new gaming desktop within the next few months. I don't want to spend too much. I'd probably like to just get a new OEM and change the graphics card and power supply. However, if it's significantly cheaper, I'm willing to build something from scratch too. Any recommendations f...

Thanks for all the help guys. What's funny is that I got this garbage as soon as I started using Internet Explorer (I usually use Firefox).

Ok, so I managed to scan my computer fully and I think I removed it. However, my desktop background is black, icons are missing, and it looks like almost all my files/programs are missing with the exception of a few such as Firefox and Windows Movie Maker (This was the case before I removed it).

WindowsRecovery Malware

So I got that WindowsRecovery malware on my Win 7 laptop. My files are hidden but luckily I had the option to right click on the folders in My Computer and it gave me the option to scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. However, when I'm scanning the damn thing shuts down my computer a couple minutes ...

Why did Unreal Tournament 3 fail? Is PC gaming really dying?

UT3 is a solid shooter that can be very fun. However, it really isn't that popular at all for a UT game. I realize there's the crowd that disapproved of it and went back to UT2K4 but that still doesn't explain the deserted town UT3 has become. Even with all the free weekends, the game is still havin...

Your opinions on OnLive?

I played the wifi beta for a bit just now and the controls seemed kind of choppy/unresponsive. I doubt this service will be able to make games run as well as a gaming PC.

When you are using the Radeon X1600, can you see the initial boot screen? If so, your Windows default resolution/frequency may be messed up. You can change it VIA safe mode (F8 at boot) since it defaults to a standard resolution. Just bump it down to a normal resolution & frequency. Happens occ...

Monitor Problem

I've been having a monitor problem where the monitor would all of a sudden say "source input not detected" or something like that. I tried another monitor and I got the same problem. So I figured it must be my video card. I had a gaming card installed (Radeon X1600) and so I removed it and...

HD Capture Card Help

I have an ati mobility radeon hd 5470 in my laptop. Can this record gameplay from my HDTV with the right software? (Probably not, I'm just asking) What is a good HD capture card for a laptop? I'm thinking something for a reasonable price. I would be recording mostly gameplay from my PS3 and Xbox 360...

AVG Antivirus no longer free

So AVG Antivirus is apparently no longer free. My computer came with McAffee Internet Security but I chose to delete it because I keep hearing how those security suites really slow down your computer. So are there any good free antivirus programs out there that don't hog up the computer too much?
