Re: Project Hail Mary

I'm currently reading Dennis E. Taylor's (author of the Bobbiverse) book Roadkill. Like all his books, it's just a lot of fun and an easy read. Book doesn't waste time. First chapter a guy in a delivery van hits an invisible alien crossing the road.

Re: Project Hail Mary

Finally saw it last Friday. Loved it. I knew they'd have to remove a lot but they still touched on all the main points of the book. I love that they kept the final scene from the book, for the most part. BTW: The director and editor say they actually had a nearly 4 hour movie edited initially, and t...

And yes, in theory last Win10 update from last year should include the new certs. I know I had a Win10 PC get them in September.

Re: Your PC's Secure Boot Certificate May Be About to Expire

Hmm. I don't think so. Unsupported hardware has no effect on whether you get updates. But I have seen these manual cumulative updates fail on new installs. I think there's some prerequisite update you need. I haven't had a chance to try it myself but I will sometime this week, on both unsupported ha...

LGIO: I Beat This Entire Factory Game With Basically No Factory - StarRupture

An absolute masterpiece by Josh. He completely circumvented just about every thing he could and hacked his way through the game. Hilarity ensues...

Maybe he'll drive his truck out of the grave like in Lone Star McQuade?

Rest in Peace.

Re: Cory Doctrow On AI (This Week In Tech 1075)

When we're scrounging through the ruins of civilization, looking for the last few cans of food, we can all keep warm in the AI data centers, which will still be running on their mini nukes.

Cory Doctrow On AI (This Week In Tech 1075)

I don't think the dystopian AI future we are heading towards is the one where we teach too many words to the word guessing program, and then it wakes up and turns us into paper clips. I think that's like worrying that if we keep training our horses to run faster and faster, eventually one of our ma...

Pre-built PCs can be a better deal than DIY right now (at least until old stock is gone)

Posting this here if anyone's interested in a new gaming rig with parts prices the way they are. Right now, until old inventory gets cleaned out, your best bet is a prebuilt PC. So I have a couple of friends who have asked me to build them new gaming PCs. Needless to say in this RAM-Apocalypse we cu...
