Do Not Buy NZXT | Predatory, Evil Rental Computer Scam Investigated

Pretty damn egregious scam, and kudos to hardware Jesus for a deep dive. Bottom line: Steve calculates it would be better to take out an illegal 105% interest loan from a loan shark, for 5 years. You would pay the same amount, but at least you'd own the hardware in the end, because this is not rent ...

Re: Windows Zero-Day Exploited by Russia Triggered With File Drag-and-Drop, Delete Actions

That manual download is just a bunch of cab files with no installer, so I think it requires a local update server. I just imaged the drive last week anyway, and I'm 2 months behind on updates, so I just let it catch up. I'm so sick of MS updates that I may go ahead and install 0patch this month and ...

Windows Zero-Day Exploited by Russia Triggered With File Drag-and-Drop, Delete Actions

If you defer updates, like me, this is not one to defer. All it takes is to right-click, drag and drop or delete (yes delete!) a malicious file to trigger the exploit. https://www.securityweek.com/windows-zero-day-exploited-by-russia-triggered-with-file-drag-and-drop-delete-actions/ You can download...

Re: Flyby lets you do an in-place upgrade to Win11 on incompatible hardware

It can upgrade any Win10 install to Win11 and not lose any data, even if the hardware is not supported by Win11.

Re: 0Patch announces it will patch security flaws in Win10 22H2 for at least 5 yers

Been around several years. Their business model started with supporting Win7 after it was end of support. Steve Gibson recommends them. The patches come from them. In most cases they reverse engineer an MS patch. However they also come up with their own patches for things that MS decides not to patc...

0Patch announces it will patch security flaws in Win10 22H2 for at least 5 yers

Pricing is a reasonable $26.75 a year, per PC, for the Pro version, although the free version will take care of zero day exploits. Details in their blog post, linked below. I used 0patch to keep my old Win7 file server secure until I upgraded it to a Win10 box a year ago. Since it's a micro patch do...

Re: Performing a full format on a NVMe SSD

You can try running Spinrite 6.1 on it on level 2 IF your mobo supports legacy BIOS support for NVMe drives (just boot it in Spinrite and see if it sees it), but honestly I'm not sure I'd trust the drive as an OS drive even if Spinrite fixes it.

Man in China uses fireworks to fight off bulldozer sent to demolish his building

I'm expecting the A-Team to strut out of the building, with Hannibal chomping on a cigar and saying "I love it when a plan comes together."

Re: I put a GoPro on my Super Cub RC Plane

After a few days of good weather, got the video footage I needed to do a proper POV RC Plane video, with some aerobatics. No, I didn't have three cameras mounted on the plane. I flew three flights with similar patterns, rotating the camera 90 degrees each time to get a front, right side, and rear ca...

I put a GoPro on my Super Cub RC Plane

This was a fun experiment. First flight with the camera, but it was a very windy day and having a hard time with the plane, so I kept the flying to just a race track circuit, and kept it short. Next time I want to do some aerobatics.

This includes a really interesting deep dive into the mechanics of the 'chopsticks' capture mechanism, and some amazing video from both spade vehicles.

Re: SpaceX Starship 5 success!

I keep watching that landing. There's been nothing that amazing looking since SpaceX made their first double return Falcon landing.

I love when it fell through the clouds and you could really appreciate how fast it was falling.
