Re: 'Terrible' fire breaks out at Paris's Notre Dame Cathedral

This is a UNESCO world heritage site, and they announced today that any talk of a "modernized look" reconstruction is off limits. The cathedral will be rebuilt to it's original look. Fortunately this is one of the most well documented historical sites in the world. It's a shame the profes...

FYI, those slow speeds (10 MB/s) isn't 100% unraid. That's partly your hardware. My direct writes (without cache) average about 53 MB/s.

Re: UnRAID 6

Welcome back! I'm a big Unraid fan, been using it for probably 10+ years? So I've seen it grow a lot over the years. Current version is great. I run mine on a Norco chassis with 19 disk drives (dual parity + 17 data + 1 free slot) and 1 SSD for cache. I also have several dockers running on it as well.

Re: surprisingly smooth upgrade from Windows 8.1 two Windows 10 1803

JungleDisk Yeah, I have an old lifetime license for the workstation desktop version, so I pay them nothing, and just pay Amazon S3 for my bucket which has a few terrabytes on it now and charge me around 4 bucks a month for. Never had a problem. Running it on my server, workstation and wife's laptop...

Re: surprisingly smooth upgrade from Windows 8.1 two Windows 10 1803

Yes. I have that image on a USB drive, which just makes it easier. I was impressed I didn't have to install any printer drivers or scanner drivers. Not even the fingerprint reader driver. I didn't install any drivers at all except the latest NVidia driver. Windows had installed an older NVidia driv...

Re: surprisingly smooth upgrade from Windows 8.1 two Windows 10 1803

JungleDisk Dam, haven't heard that name in a while! I was an early adopter of their software and used it all over! Felt it went downhill after Rackspace bought them. At the time when I started looking, ran into crazy performance issues, taking forever to back up some file servers. Ended up switchin...

Asus Live Update Pushed Malware to 1 Million PCs

The attack, dubbed ShadowHammer, affected many thousands of computers, but it was a highly targeted attack. Kaspersky became aware of the scheme in January when it updated its scanning tools with supply-chain detection technology. A supply-chain attack involves bundling malware with systems when th...

Same. I have a license for WinRAR, but I haven't really used it in years.

Re: Phone Companies Are Finally Doing Something About Our Robocall Hell

This seems bad. Lets add shit on top of shit to make it work instead of removing the ability to spoof. You can't remove the ability to spoof as there are legitimate reasons for needing/having this ability. The system I designed and manage allows spoofing, but the big difference is that I only allow...

Re: who has 15 million to loan for a day or two !

$15M ???? OK. That's just STUPID ridiculous. Not worth it. Well, it's all relative. If you are a billionaire, that's 1.5%. So if you had 100,000, would spending $1500 still seem STUPID ridiculous? Tons of people making less than $100,000 will easily go out and buy a 30,000 car. The fact is everyone...

Re: !IF you wonder what a remodel of your house may cost .

We're currently trying to finalize our kitchen remodel, gutting the entire thing. We originally started looking at quartz, but after visiting several different suppliers, we've decided we actually prefer some granites (which don't look like typical granite), but actually like quartzite the most. Wel...
