Very nice...I wish mine was like that. Mine is pretty much a cramped, roofing nails sticking out everywhere death trap.

Re: Microsoft will charge up to $200 for a year’s worth of support for Windows 7

It's expensive to keep entire teams and engineers dedicated to legacy platforms. W7 is almost 10 years old...it makes sense for enterprise customers that can't move off for $$$$$ reasons, but consumers?

Re: Tech security at Equifax was so diabolical, senators want to pass US laws making its incompetence illegal

The first comment at the bottom of the article says it all: Equifax did what's best for their bottom line: Good security is expensive, and it's not like being hacked damaged them in any way: They are still in charge of peoples' fates, just like before. So? Why bother? Not only was there very little ...

Yeah, definitely freeze everything you can, even the smaller credit bureaus if you can outside of the big three. Experian Equifax TransUnion Innovis ChexSystems There are more, but those will go a long way to help protect yourself. Also make sure to lock down your tax filing via PIN with the IRS. If...

Re: 17 months later, the stolen data has never been found, and experts are starting to suspect a spy scheme

It's out there, they just haven't found it yet, or are not telling us they have. I also had a HUGE ID theft at the end of last year...no other way did they get the info they had than from the Equifax breach. The level of detail and effort put into the ID theft I had (and am still dealing with) is be...

Re: IT consultant advice

+1 for Wave Apps. I use it for my side LLC to create invoices. I don't use anything else (not even emailing invoices...I just create them and export to PDF), but it's a pretty nice feature set for free.

finally got a raspberry pi to play with

I picked up a slightly older Raspberry Pi (3 model b v1.2) and loaded up Raspian via the NOOBS installer. Then I installed Pi-Hole on it to be the network-wide adblocker. https://pi-hole.net/ It's working really well so far and does speed up browsing (YMMV based on where you browse, of course). I ha...

Re: Software disenchantment

Where's the love for MS? ;) Don't worry, the pain isn't just on the customer side. Internally, most of us are required to run the "dog food" versions that are well ahead of the released versions...and it can be...interesting. The internal IT is also quite aggressive with patching and forci...

for cosmology fans

While looking for hi res images to print off for my office, I found this site:

http://www.thecmb.org/

Great interactive display of the cosmic microwave background radiation mapped so far. Be sure to try the different resolutions and GHz options, etc. Crazy.

Re: GDPR and domain contact info

Funny you mention that, since I just transferred two of my domains from GoDaddy to Namecheap because of it. GoDaddy wanted $10/yr per domain for their privacy option. Automatically added to my cart at checkout for convenience...how thoughtful! It was cheaper to transfer to Namecheap and renew for do...
