Re: Oops! 185,000-plus Wi-Fi cameras on the web with insecure admin panels

i've had several IP cams running for a while now. all cam IPs are blocked for outbound connections to the internet via firewall rules. the only thing allowed to connect to them is internal, which is the NVR pc/software. the NVR remote access is then secured via HTTPS and stunnel + HTTPS certs + port...

happy holidays! is anyone using Google Fi for phone service? i'm strongly considering it, now that my LG G3's screen is crapping out (one week after the contract ended...). i'm on Verizon now, but coverage looks to be solid from the Fi side. if you are on it and want to shoot me a referral code (i t...

Acronis TI 2015 - $0 after MIR

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832200082

$29.99 - $10 coupon (EMCELGF79) - $20 MIR = $0

not the newest version of Acronis, but 2015 has W10 support and the rebate is from Newegg, so should be solid.

Re: Need security cam/DVR recommendation

take a look at this site for a decent security cam/system forum: http://www.ipcamtalk.com with the Blue Iris software, you can add in nearly any IP cam out there, minus the "cloud only" ones. it has an iOS/Android app, as well as customizable web interface if you like. it's flexible as far...

Re: Need security cam/DVR recommendation

bumping this... FP, did you ever decide on a new setup? i am finishing up an install at my new place and am very happy with the quality|price ratio. the previous owner had a Samsung NVR system (non-HD) w/ 7 external cams. i reused some of the cabling (parts were Cat5e...others proprietary wire for t...

hacked my LGA 775 motherboard

so i've been gone for too long again...including not getting back to Losbot many months ago... i found out that it's possible to hack LGA 775 boards (at least many of them) to work with LGA 771 Xeon cpus. i happened to have both, so i gave it a shot! my trusty old LGA 775 E8400 cpu (which is still d...

i picked up a lot of 9 and 22 a year or so ago during the "shortage". i ended up buying too much (walmart trips and a few online shops) and would like to get rid of some of it now...i don't get to the range enough to justify having it sitting here. if you're near 33308 and want some at ori...

i've used their rackmount solutions before at a previous job. it was used for file sharing (internal and external), general file dumping ground, and some non-critical backups. the only complaints i had was related to how it handled AD integration and managing permissions on the shares, but that won'...

i've always dreamed of anti-tailgater mods but never went through with any of them. i had an idiot on a scooter massively tailgating recently...nothing like challenging an SUV with your little scooter moped thing. i just turned the front wiper sprayers on to clean off the windshield a few times and ...

my reinstall nightmare is my work laptop. the last reinstall/upgrade took over two weeks due to so much stuff on it. office, visio, project, virtualized workstations for different VPN requirements, powershell customizations...it's a huge pain.

i haven't had much luck with using the chip so far either. most stores haven't enabled it...those that have don't tell you to use it until you swipe and then have to start over. once you try, it takes quite a while to authenticate everything...once it was 30+ seconds. it's a shame it's been deployed...
