Topic: How do you flash a MB BIOS with XP?

Ummm.... WHAT command prompt in XP? The only way to get a command prompt is in a DOS Window and you definately shouldn't flash your BIOS from within Windows.

You should ONLY flash a bios from a clean DOS boot on a floppy. You should have NOTHING else installed or running - not even memory managers.

That'll tell you whether it's the sound card or something else. Worse comes to worse pull all the cards and install each one - 1 at a time until you find the culprit. Also, SBLive doesn't like sharing an IRQ and if XP Home is like Win2K, it probably assigns all devices to one IRQ. In Win2K the solut...

RocketMaxx!

http://www.octmc.com/rocketmaxx.htm Hehe... these guys remind me of my buds and I 15 years ago. Bunch of us used to do crazy stuff with rockets also. We had a contest to see who could successfully launch a model rocket from underwater. The technical challenges were great, but we succeeded. I should...

Random reboots are almost always caused by a PCI IRQ channel sharing problem (this is NOT the same as an IRQ conflict, there are four PCI IRQ channels labelled A - D and all your PCI and AGP devices must share them). This problem does not affect ISA cards. This problem is very common with NICs, some...

ATI made CRAP cars before the Radeon. I just had a client install an Expert 98 (yes they still sell these 3 year old cards NEW) and the stupid thing won't do a full screen DOS window without crashing and of course he runs a DOS accounting app off his server. It's listed as a known problem on the web...

Did Roxio fix the Win2K problem in EZ CD Creator or do you still have to avoid installing Direct CD?

Well the question I have to ask is WHY? You rarely want to go from MP3 to Wav. The only good reason to was early CD burner software didn't support MP3s but now they all do, so why do you want to convert a file from 4 Mb to 70 Mb? Anyway I use Audiograbber with the Lame Encoder to rip CDs and it also...

Excellent unofficial drivers here that Doc Silly recommended to me: http://shs-sound.paraknowya.com/

Haven't used them on XP just 2K, but they're supposed to work fine on XP.

I had some problems with certain apps using the Creative drivers, and these fixed them up just fine.

Hmmm... if you're a power user you just use a Win98 boot disk, but what if you're Joe Blow on the street and you DON'T have a 98 boot disk or access to a 98 system. You're screwed.

I wonder if the home version of XP will be able to make bootable CDs.

Nope. Big bastard has excellent balance... Here's another one for you. Most nights we've got at least 3 cats in the bed. We don't mind, I feel uncomfortable without a cat in the bed (except when the wife and I want a little quality time, then the furry rodents get locked out of the room). http://sol...

We have SIX (yeah, I LOVE cleaning the cat litter...) This is my wife's big gray monster Smokey (I call him Smokey the Bear).
