Run Regedit and go to: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvTweak] Add a DWORD entry called "CoolBits" (without quotes) and set the value to 3. You'll now have a tab in the Geforce Additional display properties for overclocking - it's called "Hardware" I think.

First off NO you don't need Dx8 - Win2K should not have told you that. I'd avoid Dx8, there's problems (actually they're up to Dx8a now). I'm suspecting that you have a beta driver for the V3 that's Dx8 compatible. That might be the problem. I would recommend you pull ALL you cards except the vid ca...

44% is a bit low, but not if a large app is running. Was anything else other than your MP3 player running? It's possible you have a background app running that has a memory leak. If you have Win98 run MSCONFIG.EXE click on the Startup tab. Uncheck anything you don't need running - Windows ONLY requi...

Yes, at the higher settings it essentially assigns more CPU cycles to a specific app. Games run slightly slower in Win2K than in Win98, and this is the reason. Because Win2K is a multitasking OS it never wants to make anything high priority. There's all kinds of services running in the background in...

With Win98/ME you can just install it over itself without formatting and 90% of the time it will fix your problem. This causes Windows to re-install all the DLL files (usually the cause of flaky problems) but retains all your settings and installed apps. I call it a "refresh install". You ...

http://www.gameroffice.com/ Found this very cool freeware app called Windows 2000 Launcher. It allows you to set the priority for a program so you can run games at a higher priority than they normally would under Win2K. Some of you know you can do this with the DOS command line START /HIGH but this...

Well it doesn't soudn like it has anything to do with the video settings you changes. If it won't boot into safe mode, something's screwed up. Are you overclocking? Win2K is more sensitive to overclocking than Win98 - don't ask me why. I can run my clock at 133 with only 98 installed. With Win2K ins...

Just checked Sony's site and I think it's this one, the MDR V900: http://www.sonystyle.com/sonystyle/4784/4865/7801/4890/4896/256.default.html List is $200 but I've seen them for $100 - $129. I've used them at a friend's recording studio and they're sweet. Borrowed one for a while to use on the comp...

What driver are you using? I recommend the latest official (NOT beta or leaked) NVidia Detonator driver: http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/htmlmedia/detonator3.html You may need to update your motherboard's BIOS or install the latest motherboard drivers - go to the mobo manufacturer's web site. You...

On a modern good quality mobo the location shouldn't matter, but yes I've had systems that were fussy about slots used. The manual may even recommend what order to fill the slots in. However, unless there's some other problem going on (may timing settings are setup wrong in BIOS) there's no reason t...

And for those who don't know, with a BIOS update the Nomad II will download files using Windows Media Player 7 which is MUCH better for managing and uploading MP3s to the Nomad than the app Creative gives you. Creative's app can't even save or read playlists, but Media Player can read Winamp playlis...

Looking for a 16 or 32 Mb SODIMM stick for a laptop. It's for an old P-233 Laptop. MUST be 5-volt EDO (not SDRAM). Won't take fast Page either according to the manual. They make both 5 and 3.3 volt EDO SODIMMs so voltage is important. If you're not sure what you've got, send me the number off one of...
