Maybe a few words...

...added to your post would help the common man understand that this isn't your mod, or your project that you are presenting to the rest of the forum. Your original post suggests that this was you project. Now I know better. :bag

Nice...

...but I suggest a few mods to finish this off. You've done some nice wiring in there, and a window on top would look great. A few lights inside, and maybe an LED fan would look sweet too. Overall it's a good and efficient design. Good job! :D

I've thought about....

...talking to Sun. After all, I'm an engineer. They are engineers. We speak the same lingo. In fact, Sun seems to prefer AMD over Intel by a big margin. I appreciate that. Only one problem though. I don't want to give this machine up. It works perfectly for it's intended purpose, and I love how it l...

The beauty of laser-etch....

...is that you can attach LEDs or cold cathode tubes to the edge and get some very cool lighting effects. I would not recommend opening up the hard drive to fabricate a window. You will almost certainly cause an early failure of the drive, and that will occur when you most need it (gaming in Counter...

Jet Direct Network card...

Too bad you didn't mention that Jet Direct network card about 5 months ago. There was one in our office that they were giving away, but it was the 10Mbps version, not the 10/100 speed. Anyway, another guy got it, since he had a use for it. I'll keep my eyes open for them now. That 4500 series is the...

I understand.

I appreciate the offer, but I don't need any Sun logos made. One is all I need. I don't have a cad file .DXF thats R12 or earlier because we modeled it using a picture found on the Internet. The thing I am more interested in is a laser-etched window using my Big Al's Computers logo. Check my web sit...

One more thing.....

I worked with my oldest son to make a Sun logo (seemed logical, right?). I coated it with UV paint, but it took five coats to get this much glow out of two 4" UV cold cathodes. What do you guys think? Anybody green with envy? :D http://www.bigal-computers.net/bigal/Sun-X-Terminal-457a.JPG http:...

Laptop memory...

I remember trying to get a Dell laptop to accept another memory stick. I ordered one stick from Newegg, and it didn't work. At a computer show, I found that there is an issue between single-sided memory, and double-sided memory. The guys that sell memory at computer shows know their stuff in this de...

Something extra....

A few weeks ago I added an AMD appliqu that looks sort of like a laser-etch on the window. I've had this decal for more than a year, and this was the perfect place to mount it. http://www.bigal-computers.net/bigal/Sun-X-Terminal-452a.JPG http://www.bigal-computers.net/bigal/Sun-X-Terminal-454a.JPG

Way too hot...

You certainly are running too hot with a 60C idle temp. Your idle temp should be below 40C or very close to that. A full load temp above 55C is a problem too. May I suggest a Thermalright Si97 CPU cooler and a decent 92mm fan? Also, your internal case temperature of 35C is also way too hot. You must...

Yep...

I'm really pleased with the results too. I just wish I could get a wireless G USB adapter to work with Windows XP Professional 64-bit beta. For now I'll just use the wired Ethernet, but eventually I'll get tired of stepping over the cable in the basement.

I think it needs one more thing - you guessed it. Something moving under the cover, with a faint "Let me outta here!" playing on a audio loop.

...I did submit my entry a few days ago. They don't auto-reply, so you never really know if they are looking at it. I also submitted it to Maximum PC and PC Extreme magazines. Do you know of other computer-related magazines that feature a modding section? If so, please provide their titles when you ...
