The virus won't be listed by the file name - it'll be listed by the virus name which the virus scanner should tell you when it finds it - assuming you remember or wrote it down. Keep in mind that going back to an earlier restore point may restore the virus files. Assuming the viruses are gone, you s...

Yes they're getting sneakier, but if you keep your anti-virus data files updated your software should detect any potential virus. It's still possible for one to sneak through even so, so it's a good idea to schedule a full drive scan every month or so. You also want to do a full drive scan if the co...

For the average home user, FAT32 works fine and it's easier to recover your data in case of a disaster.

Most people will see no benefit from NTFS's security features, and there's no real performance difference.

Yes NTFS is more robust and less prone to certain types of file corruption.

If there's more than 10Mb in your temp folder, you should delete what;s in it. The safest way to do this is to reboot and then immediately delete everthing in it. You should clear your Temp Internet files. IE stores pages and graphics in there so your pages will load faster. HOWEVER it's a very good...

I have the Visiontek. I use WinDVD 2000 for DVD playback. I've heard PowerDVD is also good. TVTool is a MUCH more convenient way to enable TV out than the 5 deep clicks you have to go through in Display properties. It allows you to toggle TV out via a taskbar icon or keyboard shortcut. It also preve...

Visiontek Ti-200 comes with heatsinks and I've got mine overclocked to nearly the same speed as a standard GF3.

Latest NVidia drivers support TV out just fine. However, you'll want to spend $10 on a VERY nice utility called TV Tool: http://www.tvtool.de/index_e.htm It allows all NVidia cards with TV out to enable TV out and monitor out at the same time (normally turning on TV out kills the computer monitor). ...

Many modern sound cards don't support DOS anymore and no card I know of supports DOS games on Win2K/XP. Even if the card supports DOS emulation, it's tricky. Most old DOS games require you set set DOS variables with the sound card settings in the autoexec.bat file. Lot's of info on classic gaming he...

My vote's for the GF3 Ti-200. VERY happy with mine. I can't rationalize spending more than $200 for a vid card and the Ti-200 is a lot of horsepower for the money.

Nothing wrong with your rig - I'm running a P3-1000 myself and it's more than enough horsepower. I can run everything at 1152x864 silky smooth - and some games even run well at 1280x960. Your video card is the bottleneck - it's 2 generations old. I just a Visiontek GF3 Ti-200 and I'm very happy with...

Then that's likely your problem. Look up the viruses in McAfee's or Norton's online reference guide. Most modern viruses CAN NOT be eliminated by just doing a virus scan. Many of them now hide in the recycling bin where anti-virus apps can't touch them, and they leave entries in the registry to resu...

If you still have the PS/2 adapter for the mouse you can try it and see if possibly it's a USB problem. Uninstall that Intellimouse software - you don't need it. 98 can recognize the mouse just fine on it's own. That software often causes problems. If it still acts up with the software uninstalled i...

Seems like an anonymous tip to the local newspaper might expose the problem and outrage some tax payers.

Just make sure they can't trace the tip back to you and if you have to talk to anyone, tell them they can't use your name.

You're not talking about uploading - you're saying you can SEND any email Attachments right? You don't have trouble using the browser or FTPing (dunno if you know about FTPing)? Can you send an email WITHOUT an attachment? I can't think of ANYTHING that would block only email attachments except MAYB...
