UPS rant
If I offend anyone. . . . too bad. j/k
UPS is about the most worthless shipping option. No normal Staurday deliveries. What a friggin' ignorant deal. No worse feeling of knowing your package arrived in town Friday afternoon and you won't get it until Monday. They won't even let me pick it up until they make one delivery attempt. Every time I call these big companies, I get in a defensive pissed off mood. I hate the damned automated phone calls, why can't someone just answer the damned phone ? ?
And one last complaint, If you are a customer service person, please please please please learn to speak good ENGLISH ! The dude I talked to at UPS had a very heavy forein accent. He had to repeat some things a few times for me to understand what he was saying.
Now that I'm through complainin' , I think I'll find a way to rig my old steering wheel up so that I can use it until Monday. :;

I used to leave a not on the door for FedEx. They's never leave anything. They'd make me drive clear across town and pick it up. Well, Friday when FedEx showed up, I joked with him at haow UPS always leaves packages when I leave a note. He then told me he would start leaving my packages from now on if I leave a note on the door.

UPS use to make someone sign for packages but now they'll leave very expensive items sit right outside the front door in any weather w/o a sig. I'm fortunate to now live in a better neighborhood where it's unlikely that anyone would steal my stuff but stranger things do happen to people.
I'll admit that UPS is cool in that you can track anything with your tracking # so if it doesn't show up, you can easily find out where it is. Last summer I was waiting for something, saw that it was "delivered" BUT not at my house (actually, I've had that happen twice now) but after making one phone call I was able to find out where it was (3 doors down) so I just walked over and asked the guy there for my stuff. UPS does make mistakes, no doubt.
I had a problem with UPS once after I shipped a large item (a manual transmission) as it was damaged in shipping and UPS tryed getting out of covering the damages by saying that I didn't package it correctly. After I got upset with a few people insisting that it was as well packaged as their UPS driver suggested that it needed to be, they finally repayed me what the buyer subtracted from his payment to cover the damaged parts.
Another "beef" I've had with UPS is that if you ever have something shipped COD because you might not trust the shipper, UPSs policy is to get the check BEFORE you open the box even though the shipper could just ship you a box of junk. After I explained a previous bad deal with the regular UPS driver where I work, he was cool about it but told me not to tell anyone (like UPS) that he let me do that. It was a good thing too because after I opened the box, the guy shipped me the wrong part so I returned it (no charge to me either). In that case, the shipper made an honest mistake and corrected the order.
Dispite UPSs pitfalls, they're still the cheapest way to ship and easiest to track IMO but they're sloppier now than they use to be years ago, no doubt.

i hear ya!
ups is the worst carrier ever of packages. they never knock on my door they just leave not with neighbor or on my door. i have to call and start complaining. plus i hate ups cause they mistreat your packages. i have friend who works for ups and he says they throw the boxes all over the place until theres a breaking sound or something sounds broken they carefully place it and put fragile stickers on it.

I hate UPS, Gateway sent me a package that I had to sign for. UPS came on day one, I was not here so I left a note. They came on day two, I was here, the door was open, I walk by the door at 2 in the afternoon and there is a sticker on the door. I'm thinking WTF, I was here all day and the guy didn't knock, the freaking door was open even. Then, day three, the guy comes at 1:30 and leaves another sticky, who is home at 1:30? SO, I call the number and am told I can drive 45 minutes to their nearest desk or can schedule one more delivery. So, I tell the lady I'll take a freaking day off from work just to get this package if they will try one more time.
THEN, later that day I get another call, another UPS lady telling me that they do not deliver after the third try, I went off on her and told her that she could send it back to sender and kiss my ass. The whole time the lady was being unfriendly as hell and I was being polite as possible. Then she told me they would not try and drop it off again and I went off. I told her that they were making it as hard as possible just to get a damn package and they could send it back and lose the money for the deliver, I didn't give a damn. She finally agrees to send it the day I had allready agreed to.
This is the most un customer friendly company I think I have ever dealth with, I think they are too big for thier britches, they think they are so big they can treat you like crap and you just have to deal with it. Me, I use USPS, they are pretty quick and have a lot of offices in my area.
My 2 cents.

USPS is great.
Nothing beats Priority mail.
I had to RMA a bad mobo and UPS wanted 30 for 3 day air. I couldn't do their ground shipping, cause it would take 8 days to get there. How does it take 8 days???
I took it to USPS and they did it for priority mail, insured for $9. And it gets there in 2 days. And since it is the post office, they are smart enough to figure out where to leave a package safely.
I have a convinience store below me, and most of the time UPS will leave packages there for me, but every now and then, they won't. So damn frustrating, cause I never know if I should leave work early to wait for a package or not...
okay.
enough ranting..
