Getting rid of all my AMD stuff....
Getting rid of all my AMD stuff....
This is not to degrade any of the AMD owners out there(I have 3 AMD systems myself) but I think my days of owning AMD stuff is over.
I just got my 1.6A combo in and its running flawlessly at 2.40 and guess what, the fan is running at around 2500rpm.
This is my biggest grip with AMD cpu. Its like going from life on the airport runway to reading books at the library. Its so quite, I accidently turn off my computer(its on standby) trying to turn it on.
I don't care about the imcompalibility, stability, crack cores, any of that stuff, its the loudness that bothers me the most.
My life can be normal again. That buzzing sound is finally going away. YEAH !!

watercooling?
But I know what you mean, AMD systems do (from what I hear) tend to run a little hotter. I've personally never owned anything from intel passed my P150... always been too poor and since the peroformance was comparable, never thought twice.
Like wvjohn said, what kinda system are you running?

I myself am very interested in purchasing one of these set ups. Though I really know jack about the various motherboards available. Everyone seems to have gone AMD since the P4 came out, and I haven't heard much about mobos.
And how do you overclock so stably? What memory speed, etc are you running at?

Yeah its really too bad it takes 2.4 Ghz to beat a 2000+ XP though.... Noise ain't a factor on mine... Get a decent HSF with a slow fan and you never notice noise... And the temps are low... I'll keep my XP running at 1.7 over a P4 anyday... Built a few of them and they ain't nothing special... If AMD would do 1 instruction for every 2 clock cycles i'm sure they'd get the XP even cooler yet but why waste a good clock cycle? All Intel wants is GHz bragging right and they got it...
haha, You bought into that "gata run a delta" bs? My system is extreamly quiet...well actually my 2 main ones are extreamly quiet. But I hear ya man. Hope it works out 4 ya.

You either get the Intel 854D or the Sis 645 chipset(usually $30cheaper). Both uses DDR.
Myself I bought the Gigabyte GA-8srx, its a sis 645 chipset.
The 1.6A and MB combo from Mwave cost me $238 shipped.
Default voltage is 1.5, I just upped the FSB to 150, crank up the voltage up to 1.7.
Retail fan/hs.
Ran Prime95 for about 8hrs, no error.
If you're getting the 1.6A, you're guarantted at least 2.1(which is 133fsb).
Look for a better board, I bought the Giga cause it was only $80 and it has tons of OC options but the damm thing didn't include a clear CMOS jumper which is very irritating.
Go for an 845D board if you have an extra $30 to spend.
Its like night and day, I have the side panel openned and I can't hear the fan at all.
I mean even if I use a lower speed fan on my AMD, like around 4800rpm, I can still hear it.
BTW, its the last day to use the coupon $50 off 200 at Gateway Acess.
You can get a 1.8A retail for $176 shipped with the coupon. FInd the coupon at techbargains.com

I've noticed the whole PEE4 thing seems to be the thing at Bannandtech these days... One guy has good luck OC'n so the rest of the followers jump on the bandwagon... Just like they did with AMD a few years back... These are the same Assholes that use to scream Intel sucks now they scream AMD sucks...

okay, here's a question
if i m thinking about getting a new computer for university (electrical engineering probably)
would an Intel processor be better than an AMD for the progs that i m going to use?
i understand about the quiet, but i dont notice mine that much, i think its my case fans that are loud...gotta swap those out for some panaflo's

Let Cam, take care of your breasts
No flames.
I'm not starting a which one is better as you know we all go back and forth.
I have 3 AMD systems in my room and it is LOUD.
Just letting you guys how much of a difference it made.
The whole retail fan/hs is actually bigger, its just the fan is only spinning at 2500rpm.
I mean we are all overclockers and I simply amazed I can get my 1.6A to 2.4 with a 2500rpm fan/hs.
Oh yeah, BTW, I've been banned at BannedTech. Still don't know why.
Just made another handle and I'm good to go.
