Worried About Losing Your Wallet? - Good Tips

Post by HellRaiser&BeerD »

Category: Security

Photocopy the content of your wallet and save time later!

Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine.
Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc., so you will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call to cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place.
We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed using your name, address, SS#, credit, etc. To limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know.
As everyone always advises, cancel your credit cards immediately, but the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call.
Keep those where you can find them easily.
File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where it was stolen, this proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).
But here's what is perhaps most important: (I never ever thought to do this) -
Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert
on your name and SS#.
The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen
and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

The numbers are:
Social Security Administration (fraud line): 1-800-269-0271
Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742
Trans Union: 1-800-680-7289

For men, a good start is to place your wallet in your front pocket, not the back pocket. You get 2 benefits from this:
1. You won't rune your back by sitting on your wallet.
2. It's harder to steal a wallet if it's in your front pocket.

I always keep my wallet in my front pocket. Had some bastard try to pick pocket me in Vegas only he was sloppy... Needless to say i had him on the ground face first and my knee's in his back. The police found 5 other wallets in his coat... And thanked me for being an anwry SOB lol

Me too. I'd never keep my wallet in a rear pocket as that's a good way to lose it. No pickpocket will get my wallet from the front w/o meeting my fist first :)

I sometimes keep my wallet in my rear pocket, but when I go to a store, movie, etc, it's always in my front pocket.

You guys must have some DAMN baggy pants. No way I could keep my wallet in my front pocket.

Money clip is in my front pocket, wallet in the back (always buttoned). Cubans have sensitive asses - I actually felt someone going for my wallet once in NYC and shoved him to the floor. :)

The wife taught me the photocopy trick a while back.

I don't do wallets. A wad of dosh in the front pocket. Day planner has everything else. If I don't need everything (I usually get by on a credit card, bank card and a license) what I do need gets added to the wad of dosh

I'll admit that I'd prefer not to keep the wallet in front, especially with seemingly more F'in cards of some kind everyday or on payday when it can get really stuffed (a temporary condition as the cash flys out quickly) but I guess one gets use to it as I've done that since I was a kid. I do not wear baggy pants either. That's probably the ONE thing I like about winter here as it and my keys (another bulge on the other side, front too) then gets transferred to my coat pockets instead.
