Deer Hunters...

Post by wvjohn »

It's 5 am and time to ride over 2 counties to chase the elusive whitetail in the rain. couldn't get out for opening day but hopefully they will be snoozing today because there wasn't any hunting yesterday in the place i'm headed for - anyone else do any good this year so far?

I haven't been able to make it out yet either this season. I can't get away from school long enough to go. My future father-in-law has been out a few times but hasn't taken anything down yet. Hopefully I am going to get soem time over the christmas break to go. We'll see....
On a long enough time line, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

no fair, you've got those corn fed deer :) that's a real nice one :)

no luck today - it's either sex in wva but the only clean shot i had was a smallish doe with two bambis, i'm not that hungry, saw about 4 or 5 others but i was in heavy brush and couldn't get a shot

and of course, while i was **relieving** myself a big buck popped over a ridge and pranced along the skyline just until i could pick up my rifle ,LOL

then it started snowing a little, the windchill went down to about 20, and i didn't have on my heavy hunting clothes so i hung it up for the day

i did find a big scrape about 5 ft off the ground, though - our season closes sat and i'll be away visiting relatives until then - i guess i could go back during black powder season, though i usually can't get in to my place in the snow

isn't that always the way, I was on my way to the deer stand one year , started to step over a log and up stands this huge buck , stuck his big butt in my face and off he went ........I aimed and still had the safety on and no bullet in the chamber ......by the time I got done shaking he was long gone , but I could still hear him laughing....... :( never saw another thing the rest of the season except for about 50 wild turkey thought serious about trying for one of them but I knew that would end the deer hunting, so we went without meat that season...........I think all the critters just gang up on us during hunting season ;)
