first, you have NO CLUE what i was going to put on the picture. why do you assume it was something negative.

second, even if i did do something negative, who said i was going to distribute it over the internet.

You know nothing about me, so don't go jumping to assumptions about what i was going to do witht he copy of the picture.

How ironic about how a picture about flame wars, makes a thread about it. I thought it was funny and I laughed at it and still do. People who have mental disabilities are retarted. Period. Retarted is just a "harsh" word that hides reality. Society tends to not want to deal with these realities so they hide it behind some other word which makes everybody happy. George Carlin had a great skit on this.

I can see how it can make some people not laugh, that's fine. I think some people just need to lighten up a little, but this is just me. I can see how it would be hard to do such a thing in certain situations (your kid is retarted or is in the special olympics, etc). If you ask me that boy is retarted. My grandma died, not passed away. People get murdered, it's not homicide. I'm just not one that likes to hide behind words. I dunno...

For those that doen't like this picture (which is perfectly fine) what is it that rubs you the wrong way? Is it the wording or the picture of the boy, or what?

[edit]
edited to see what you guys opinion is on it--not givin' mine quite yet.

LOL nexus.

I can see both sides to the arguement. the picture was "funny" at first glance, but when I reread it, it was a bit harsh.

I think this goes under the "double meaning" category. while it's easy for people without these types of disabilities to call each other "retards", it isn't very funny once something like that gets closer to home.

All in all, I think "We All" need to become a bit more "thick skinned", and be aware that everything we post might not be condsidered "funny".

I thought it was a bit inappropriate as well, but there is no accounting for taste. Whats funny to me may not be funny to the next, there are times when a guy getting kicked in the groin is funny and there are times when it isn't. I suppose it just matters on the context of the message, this sort of social apathy is just a sign of our times and not really these people's fault. If they find it humorous it says something about the world we live in as a whole not a single individual. Sorta like Andy Kaufman, some folks found him extremely funny (himself not the least of these) others thought he may be "retarded", it is just in your point of view.

1. I never said anything about anyone being retarded/mentally challanged/assinine/whatever you want to call it.

2. My point was that you need to get a sense of humor. The caption of the picture is not "Argue on the net and you wind up looking like this retard." It is meant to be a joke, take it as such.

This is the problem with our society these days. Everyone gets so damned pissed off over stupid crap. You can't call anyone anything anymore because you will get sued or get some stupid response like this. Not once did I say anything about your kid or that kid or any kid but you take any comment about the poster as being a personal attack on your kid. How do you know that I wasn't offended by that too? You don't, do you? How do you know that I don't have a family member who is retarded? You don't, do you? Now who is the one being the judgemental fool here? You know what? Life is funny. If you don't laugh at it, your going to kill yourself or some one else. Lighten up a little, you'll be much better off.

BTW, I'm offended that you are from New Jersey. I don't like New Jersey. That is something that you can change, so by your logic, I can be pissed off at you for that. WAH! I want you to move just because you make me uncomfortable by being from New Jersey. WAH!

Get a life man. Spend your time defending against ACTUAL attacks rather than percieved ones.
