I have two.

A visa card and a Sears card. Had the visa for years now. The Sears card I got a few months back, never did activate it. Don't plan on doing so.

Yes, impulse buys is what do you in. I'm kinda bad at that, but slowly changing. Don't tempt me with ANYTHING!!! :p

Between my wife and I, we probably have 20+ cards, and at least half of them have balances which suck. My wife's VISA card has a $50k limit...jeez. Since both of us make good money, it's hard right now to pay them all off. With 3 car payments and 2 teenagers with one going to college shortly, it's going to be 4 or 5 years before we pay them all off. We have a program called "Zilch", which helps you pay down the balances and gives you a schedule. Once my 2 older kids move out, then my wife and I will have plenty of money. We figured just with my son moving out in anothe year, we will save over $200/month just on food. This guy (17½ yr) eats like a horse.

Advice for you young guys: follow FP's example.

well I managed to get a sears card first try for 1,100....I'm assuming because I had 2 years regular payments on a new car through chrysler

of course then my life went down the toilet, had to repo my car, stopped paying my sears account and had to make a couple hospital visits

now I'm 22 and about 12k in the hole....yay for me :(

i have 12 - 15 cards.
i only use about 4 of them regularly:
Amex Blue, Amazon Bankone (1% back), MBNA Mastercard, and my ATM/Checkcard.
the other ones I signed up for incentives, like $20 Borders GC, or 15% off Macy's and Gap, 10% off Sears, 0% financing at Best Buy, etc...

Im pleased to say that I've never paid a cent to any credit card company in interest or late fees.

Anyone who has more than 4 cards (and I think that's a LOT) needs some counciling.

You've been brainwashed into being a good little consumer. We are taught in this country that it's "normal" to be in dept. That's BS - that's how credit card companies make their money.

Seriously, 12+ cards? Cut them up and talk to a shrink. You have a problem.

i think ChottoEd and I will refrain from answering this question directly as it would probably give those angry banks reason to think we have some money to pay back all that we owe... lol
