I disagree Greg. Both AVG and AntiVir do a decent job. Biggest advantage Norton has is that it checks constantly for updates while AVG runs on a schedule so there's a bigger Window that you can get an infection before you download the update.
I really don't like either mcAfee or AVG right now (except for McAfee's Enterprise edition which is very good but very expensive). Standard Norton and McAfee are both big bloated poorly written pieces of code. They use absurd amounts of memory and system resources.
I also find it rediculous how large Norton's updates are now. It's completely impractical for someone on a dialup connection to use Norton - they'll never finish the updates. The initial update after a new install is an absurd 150Mb or more.
I have a lot of clients running AVG and no problems. Frankly I see few virus infections anymore. The big threat nowadays is spyware. Any half-decent AV app will do assuming the person using the computer is not a complete imbecile and isn't trying to open every single unsolicited email attachment.
why do they do this
