Personally, I would like it if it were a little difficult to learn so it would scare all the people like my parents away
Check out linux before installing it...

I agree completey with Syn. Except for da game thing; thats probably 90% of the reason I own this machine, hehe. As Syn said, the number of linux owners is increasing and I'm sure the number of programmers for it is too; I believe it has a very positive future; but currently it isn't for <ii>me I don't really know much about it so I don't have too much room to talk, but just all this crap Microsoft is feeding us is going to make many techies check out Linux and give their opinions to the programmers, the programmers will implement them, and slowly it'll just become more and more user-friendly.

I just hope it starts supporting more hardware, more so than games right now. Or should I say I hope more companies start supporting linux? Isn't it more the companies fault (to an extent) if they don't release Linux drivers? I guess it's the problem to both sides; the OS and the manufacterer.

BeOS is a great OS no doubt but I think the whole "shift of focus" to IA's killed it,or at least things seemed to have gone downhill when Be.inc announced their plans.Actually BeOS was what got me started on using alternitives to windows.

Well I know that Linux supports most of my hardware, but I was under the impression that the Diamond MX300 A3D cards weren't. As I am not about to run out and purchase an SBLive! just to try out Linux, how about one of you Linux-heads here give me the scoop on that.
On the game front, which is the primary purpose of my rig, I don't see a whole lot of support either, but I do see newer games all coming out with Linux support, especially in the FPS genre. I have a copy of Partition Magic on hand, and I may just give it a try.

In time, you too will understand what I do.

What I really need is a FULL step by step for it tho. Say for Mandrake simply because I have heard it spoken of the most, followed closely by Redhat. Where do I get it, what files do I need, what do I do with them, how do I install it, etc. I don't want to struggle for days with the thing just trying to figure out all the terms before I can find the files I need.

Go to the NHF section.Or if your questions arent answered then post in the forums.
Mandrake or SuSE is a good distro to start with.It comes in ISO form.If you dont have a burner then http://www.cheapbytes.com has the downloadable ISO's burned to cd cheap.I've ordered from them many times and they are 100% on the up and up.
