Newsworthy here though?

Sorry but IMHO, one can find similar threads of varying interests, attitudes, etc at probably every websight on the Net, why......humans are involved.
I guess that as I get older and time goes on, I find myself not getting bothered by some of what I'll see as I can just as easily not go there or not click on the offending thread. Like this one, I do admit that there's times when I decide to "pipe in" and face the consequences of my words but I also know that sometimes I'm asking for it too if and when I chose to go against the grain.
Why do we need to discuss HardOCP and a thread from there here? I'd bet that someone who's a regular there could find some bias here too if one wanted to, right? All people have some sort of bias and for different reasons.

"no trolls, dipshits, and jerks are allowed here" - maybe you're getting just a tad bit carried away? One could argue that line too based on personal opinions.

Guess my point is simply that I fail to understand why we complain about the apparent problems or people from other websights here. Beside HardOCP, some also love bashing Anands here as well. I don't visit either sight so for me, it's simply not a problem and maybe I shouldn't have commented at all here but I'm just not getting the point of it. It's not like going to work and having to face a boss or other employees that you hate because you don't have to go to any particular websight. There are indeed some websights I've visited where I sense a type of mentality or personality that I don't care for and thus, I either rarely return or don't go back, Anands being one of those sites for sure.

If people wish to talk about this here then they can. I am curious of the results anyway.

Its important to know about the influence being curried with these uber websites. Criticism is being blunted of those advertising on such sites and of those who give parts to be reviewed. Meanwhile, those who choose not to give these sites with hardware are disparaged.

Many people go to websites like HardOCP for purchasing information and make no mistake about it, big money is involved here. Viewers should know the partialities that influence what is seen on such a site.

The sites will say its not happening and partisans of such sites will vehemently persist in denying this has been happening. In reality its been going on for a while. All this adds up to something very disturbing indeed-done for views and dollars. This deserves to be brought out in full view of everyone.

sbp is right. If HardOCP, Anand, or Tom's hardware are proven to be biased toward a certain company, a serious ethical problem exists.

If any trusted hardware site is biased/bought, it is no different than if a widely distributed magazine were biased. I mean, if computer magazines gave better reviews to advertizing comanies, people would raise Hell. I see no difference between a biased magazine and this issue.

I actually enjoy reading the news at HardOCP.
Its a little different from all the other newssites.
For reviews, Anand is one of the best.

However, the news guy, Steve for HardOCP is IGNORANT.

He's been on a crusade trying to get BestBuy to honor their Ti4600 for $129.
Anyone with half a brain would realize that BB made a pricing mistake and let it go.
No one in their right mind is going to sell a card for $129 when its retail for $399.
Hell, BB already gave all of us $30 GC for 2mins of our time.

Anyhow, with the lastest Gateway cancellations, he compared it to BestBuy.
I disagreed and sent him this email

Steve, this situation is nothing close to the BestBuy situation.

BestBuy made a pricing mistake because the Ti4600 is no where close to $129 that was advertised.
I found it amusing that so many people cried foul about a pricing mistake. People can think otherwise but you know very well $129 is no where close to the retail price of $399 so it has to be a pricing mistake.
I thought BB did more than they had to by giving people a $30 GC.

On the other hand, what Gateway did was just unethical.
The Ti4600 was priced at $389 but alot of us use a $50 off coupon that was floating around.
So it was $339 for a Ti4600 which is reasonable. $339 is $200 more than $129 so I don't see any similarity in this situation.

And also, this Gateway situation goes beyond with just the VisionTek 4600.
Gateway cancelled all orders that was not INSTOCK after the coupon deadline(which was Feb28).
Alot of people placed orders on the 1.6A, Toshiba M81 digital camera, radeon 8500 and among other stuff.
All of these orders were CANCELLED.

Gateway honored these $50 coupons on all items that were INSTOCK but for some ODD reason, after the coupon deadline(Feb 28), any items NOT instock was cancelled.

So the 2 situations are very very different, Gateway just made big blunder.

BTW, the coupon was $50 off 200 with free shipping over $199.
My feeling is that Gateway were going to lose more money by filling all these not instock items that they decided to cancel them all.
Little did they realize this would cause so much bad pubicilty.

GOLFREAK.

And he sent this email back to me.

Thanks for the input, I filed it accordingly...right after I read the part where you said you found it "amusing".... I didn't bother reading anything else after that point.

I sent a thought out email and when he saw that I didn't share his point of view, he didn't finish reading it. Thats just shows you how IGNORANT he is.

-Amen

I visit his site for update on news...as for reviews I have never cared for his reviews.
As for how IGNORANT he is....It is very obvious with history that anyone who has a different view then Steve (and Kyle IMO) gets ignored. He is very one sided in his responses and ideas... people are creatures of habbit and I have no doubts this onesidedness bleeds over to his reviews.

Seems to me that most sites are biased in some way at some point in time. Tom's tested a swiftech water cooling kit against an Innovatech kit but tested the swiftech without a radiator(!!!!!!). Kyle seems never to have met an Abit product he didn't like... You can go on with examples, but it is really up to the reader to educate themselves a bit and be a little a skeptical of anything they see, whether it is in a magazine or a web site....

Biased or not, HardOCP, Anand's, Tom's, Overclockers.com etc. have largely been outstanding resources for the hobby and represent a buttload of effort from the people who run them... I fail to see what all the excitement is about. Of course the HardOCP is biased, but not to the degree that it has no credibility whatsoever...

BTW, as a dipshit I now feel uncomfortable posting here...
