In my opinion, global warming is a bunch of BS. Take a peek at this story about the Great Lakes.

global warming is the overall average for the entire planet...not local regions.

with 24+ inches of ice i bet it's tough to get a hole to ice fish with! hehehehe

In actuality (and I've mentioned this before on the forum) most computer models predict increased global warming will lead to more severe winters. Global warming is NOT a simple thing. The interactions of the atmosphere and aquasphere are VERY complex.

if u see pictures over the years its alot less now then it was 20 years ago

how can you take a look at the past 20 years and produce what "should" be happening on a planet thats been around for millions of years?

i was wondering that myself...

Back in the 70's, environmentalists squawked about global cooling.

Ahhh, but don't forget... True, the ice packs in the north are melting.. HOWEVER, in the south pole, the polar ice caps are GROWING!!

Global warming seems to be a big bunch of BS.. Or that is to say, Global Warming has yet to be really proven to be something more than natural entiornmental changes.. I think the earth's ability to adapt is overlooked by etremeist enviornmentalists...

The issue is that the atmosphere and hyrosphere are a chaotic system. Push a chaotic system too hard and you get VERY unpredicatable results.

I'll try to find links to some good articles, but as I mentioned above all the computer models predict COLDER winters as global warming increases.

A concern is that a large portion of the Ross ice shelf, or the whole ice shelf might break off (a rather large piece did in the last March - it was the size of Connecticut):

I think Global Warming is a bunch of BS. Ok, I'll agree that it happens but I also agree that there isn't anything we can do about it. It happens every so many thousands of years, just like a long time ago when the glaciers came all the way down into indiana (ever wonder why it's so frikkin' flat?) and then it receeded however many years later.

Well actually you're talking about an Ice Age which is a normal cycle.

Hurricanes are normal too.

But the concern is that global warming, if it is indeed being caused by human actions, will upset these normal cycles.

We can't do anything to prevent the next Ice Age which is due sometime in the next 50,000 years, but it would be tragic if our actions caused an event just as catastrophic for humanity in the next 20 - 50 years.

- If the entire Ross ice shelf broke off, some scientists believe it would cause world - wide tsunamis. All coastal cities would be hit by killer waves - worse closer to the point of origin. It would also mean a serious rise in water levels.

- Water levels HAVE been rising. Look at Venice. The question is, is it due to a natural rise in sea levels or are we contributing? It's hard to be sure.

- If the AVERAGE WORLDWIDE temperature actually has been rising due to our actions, then winters and summers become more severe (yes, global warming would lead to colder winters). Because of the larger differential temperatures between seasons and other factors, hurricanes and typhoons become stonger (another trend which has been confirmed in the past 2 decades). It also changes El Nino and El Nina cycles which in turn radically alters drought cycles which affects crops, water availability (and almost all the experts agree we'll start seeing countries fight wars over water in this decade even without global warming, because we're drawing down our aquifers faster than they're being replenished).
