I've never really liked her music, but I have respected her as a female counterpart to David Bowie. She keeps re-inventing herself, doesn't get stale. Sort of ala-Metallica, she doesn't mind losing some hardcore fans in order to introduce herself to new fans.

(notice how I worked in Metallica, with the full knowledge that NOBODY like their last two albums very much...) ;)

The first album turned me off from Metallica for YEARS. It was primarily because I couldn't stand Dave Mustaine's guitar.

Then I saw them live on the Black tour, and suddenly realized what I had been missing. Started listening to the older albums (except the one with Dave).

After Black, I think they did a live album (whoopteedoo) and then they did a cover-tune album. "Turn The Page", by Metallica...crap, what a waste of airtime. I pretty-much gave up on them, and then Lars started doing the whole "we've changed our minds, we're with the suits" thang.

Anyway, back to the Material Gurrrl...
"For the first time in a remarkable 20-year record-making career, Madonna pours that near-mythic knack for reinvention into a spectacularly stinky artistic black hole," Philadelphia Inquirer music critic Tom Moon wrote
"'American Life' ... is not only the the most wretchedly empty thing she's ever done, it's also one of those big-budget projects that make sense only as megastar indulgence, a cloying mess of beats and noise and meaningless wounded-childhood outpourings," the review said
"Amazingly, after two decades in the business, the star still hasn't learned how to sing."
Really, Madonna: Don't you think a nice, long vacation is a little bit overdue at this point?
The New York Times had the most devastating comment:
Too often, the album approaches the folkie psychobabble of songwriters like Jewel
Ouch...

"What the f*ck do you think you're doing?"

Ummm...downloading shitty music off the web...why do you ask?

madonna may be a super success, but her music is predictable and bland.
She is washed up, and although i probably pleasyred my self at the thought of her when i was 12, she reminds me of the women you see on the jenny jones show now

Ya know, I went looking on Kazaa for that mp3 where she says "What F are you doing" and for the life of my, couldn't find it. I found and downloaded over 30 copies of American Life and they where all either the actual song, or that thing where they take a 5 second clip and copy it until it's as long as the original song. I wanted to hear it her words damn it!

THough, I thought it was funny I *couldnt* find it

Last album I liked by her was the Like a Prayer one. Since then, just one decent song comes to mind. That and the fact she's become a major slutty person.

Critics blast Madonna's latest cd :D

<i>NEW YORK (Reuters) -- Madonna's latest album, "American Life," hit stores Tuesday and left critics asking if the Material Girl, after 20 years atop the musical heap, had lost her touch as pop's most successful chameleon. </i>

<b>"'American Life' ... is not only the the most wretchedly empty thing she's ever done, it's also one of those big-budget projects that make sense only as megastar indulgence, a cloying mess of beats and noise and meaningless wounded-childhood outpourings," the review said.

'Tired and Confused'
Jim Derogatis, a critic at the Chicago Sun-Times, also panned the singer's latest effort.

"'American Life' ... finds her sounding more than a little bit tired, repetitive and all played out," Derogatis wrote, adding, "Amazingly, after two decades in the business, the star still hasn't learned how to sing."

Slamming the album as "a confused and confusing mess," the critic concluded by suggesting: "Really, Madonna: Don't you think a nice, long vacation is a little bit overdue at this point? You certainly seem to need a rest."

Even The New York Times, which took a more somber tone to its review, could not help but note, "Too often, the album approaches the folkie psychobabble of songwriters like Jewel."</b>

All she managed to do was antagonize a group of people, that live for it. The music industry has to realize that people will download and share music, even if they have to take it apart bit by bit, and re-encode it. The cat is out of the bag, and there is now way to put him back.

The worst thing about it, is Madonna, and her buisness people are going to hammer their web provider. 99.9% of the time their webserver is secure, but when you poke at the hackers of the world, they are going to get in.

OMG!!! here is a fucking hilliarious ideal that would make you some money and piss them off.

Take that track of her cussing... and make a techeno remix of it... and copyright it. since that track of her never was copyrighted... you could do it! that would be GREAT!!!

Madonna Slams American Values

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. pop superstar Madonna Image, one of music's richest performers, has attacked her fellow Americans for being obsessed with the "wrong values" such as getting rich and looking good.

Madonna told the Radio Times that Americans had opportunities people in other countries did not have but got caught up in superficial dreams.

"We as Americans are completely obsessed and wrapped up in a lot of the wrong values -- looking good, having cash in the bank, being perceived as rich, famous and successful or just being famous," Madonna told the television listings magazine.

"It's the most superficial part of the American dream and who would know better than me? The only thing that's going to bring you happiness is love and how you treat your fellow man and having compassion for one another."

The interview coincided with the release this week of Madonna's latest album "American Life."

The album -- her first in three years -- received poor reviews and left many critics asking if pop's most successful chameleon had lost her touch after 20 years at the top.

"American Life" comes hard on the heels of the biggest flop of her career as a movie actress -- "Swept Away" which was directed by husband Guy Ritchie and widely panned by critics and audiences alike.

But Madonna, who has embraced domestic bliss in Britain with Ritchie and her two children in recent years, brushed off the criticism.

"The critics have been writing me off for 20 years. That's nothing new. As far as I know I still have plenty of fans and sell lots of records. Do I care what critics say about me? No, and I don't read reviews."
