After seeing ads, I looked around online at some of the latest state of the art, professional grade digital SLR cameras and although the specs, features surely look impressive, the prices are outrageous IMHO. I mean....~$3,500 (Canon)-~$7,500(Nikon)!!! Yipes! That'd buy me a very nice used car.
How good can the results be compared to the "average" digital cameras that are affordable for most of us?

They Have.

Digital SLR has far more resolution and more importantly, image quality when compared with standard digicams. They use more and much more sensitive CCD's and of course are able to be equipped with any zoom lens just like a normal SLR. AFAIK, you can buy a pretty good Canon for around $1500 (6 megapixel). 11 megapixel cameras start at 2000+.

The arguement is one of clarity. very few digital cameras come close to the clarity of a film process, especially at long distances, and during high speed motion. Although digital is catching up.

Now it's 11mp? Film was about 6mp a few years back when I bought my 3.1mp Sony. Just goes to show you little Jimmy from Best Buy will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy.

The idea sparks my interest but my 3 yr old, 2.3 megapixel camera still does a very good job for what I need a camera for. I have an old 35mm Nikon (new FE2 in '83) that I used until I got my digital camera and honestly, when compared on my PC screen or TV (todays method of viewing) or even blown up and printed, I can't see where the digital pics look worse. I also shoot my digi pics at high res so I get plenty of detail.

I guess that I wonder if I could tell the difference between my older 2.3 megapixel pics vs the same pics at 11 megapixels, are my aging eyes (yes) THAT good?
