Received an award today

I received a Meritorious Service Medal today that I had no clue that I was getting. The only time I ever saw anyone get one was when they were an officer leaving or if you were retiring. It's the highest award that you can receive within the state and the approval authority is a two-star. Any higher and you have to go to Guard Bureau. Needless to say that I was extremely honored to have even been considered to receive one let alone get it. Thought that I would share that with you all while I have a breather but have to get back to work now.

Thanks guys. Finally made it home but going in early so I can make up for what I didn't get done. As for what I do I'm a Training NCO (non-com officer) for the Massachusetts Regional Training Institute. Basically a National Guard School house. I handle all of the Field Artillery schools as the Regional Headquarters and also the OCS program for the state. Currently I'm a Staff Sergeant but I just came down on the promotion list last month for Sergeant First Class. Right now since I'm already holding a slot it's just a matter of my Colonel submitting the paperwork to get promoted (Think $500 after taxes a month pay raise). That's what also blew my mind on getting it since I don't know anyone below the rank of SFC to have received it. Not to say that I'm the first or anything. When things calm down after this weekend I may scan my orders to show you what the citation read. Finally all of the travelling and long hours is beginning to pay off.
