Post by renovation »

how do you keep all those disk you burned .
and all those driver disk you get with hardware
and what do you use to keep them in different category's .
so lets say you need a game or program so you can find them in short order ?
also do you keep your operating systems disk in a diffrent location then your games and burned software ?
and same goes for movies /music cds to !

i know for me i have like 4 cases of asst programs and then theres a shoe box full of offic programs and driver disks , and then i have a beer case full of dvi movies and asst what not disks . {most all in paper sleeves and plastic cd cartons }

At home I used to keep everything, but since getting cable I mainly only keep office and photo apps, OSs, pics, and games.

At my shop I have a 3 x 3 cork board on the wall, that I hang misc apps and utility CDs on thumb tacks. Makes for quick accessibility.

The only solution I found is to catalog all the disk with a software called Where Is It. When I need to find anything, I simply search the database and a few seconds later, it tells me what disk I have it on.

As for physical location, that can be a problem. :D

I put everything in 3 ring binders with CD sleeve pages.

I inventory everything in an MS Access app I wrote a long time ago. Every disc has a number on it and they're filed in the 3 ring binders in numerical order.

Takes me 30 seconds to look up a program, and find it.

I use "Where Is It?" for inventorying MP3s and images.

Yeah, I'm anal....
