What IM program to use ?

I haven't used any IM in years. Which one can I get that will not force spyware on me ?

I use Trillian just b/c it has tabbed windows and logging for AIM. So in theory I use AIM.

Do you have to install AIM and then Trillian, or is Trillian itself all you need ?

Trillian is all you need..

it does Aim.. MSN.. ICQ.. Y! and a few others.. plus.. IRC.. if you want to use the ****ty client they have..

I run a few things.. Trillian w/ MSN ICQ Aim and Y!.. all personal accts

then I run MSN Msngr for Work..

then I run mIRC for all my IRC needs..

trillian can be found at http://www.trillian.cc and yes it's worth buying if you can't find it for free..

I use Agile Messenger on my iPAQ and I use Y! on my main PCs.. It's the only thing that I use though. I have Trillian, but not very fond of it.
