Some updates

Post by blade »

If any remember my brothers accident, he is still having major troubles. A fully loaded 18 wheeler ran a light and smashed into him and ran over his leg. Landing on his side, helmet hit the ground and his shoulder, leg was twisted and back some too.

Leg had to be removed just below his left leg. He's had 3 maybe 4 operations, the staph infection and his shoulder has a torn rotator cuff which hurts all the time. And his knee is messed up too. But, they say they have to get his leg injury fixed first before working on the others because it risks him getting the spaph again. That could kill him because he is weaker against it already having it.

We are waiting to hear approval from the trucking co. to be sure they pay all expenses (and sign a paper) for him to have his leg revised at what is said to be the best place for this in Colorado. They haven't paid the larger bills but have paid some smaller ones. My brother was served by the police because of the unpaid operations which total around 100k. His attorney is trying to work on all this. We tried, but got back mostly infullfilled promises.

They promised to take care of everything he needs, but have yet to. They admitted it was all their fault. As you can imagine my brother can be a major bear to be around at times.

On top of this, his bud at the cycle shop who always took care of his harleys, whom we visited once every week or two, and whom is a really cool, polite and mellow person had an accident last week on
Monday. Near one of my brothers doc's it is a bad intersection, he was driving his harley and truck hit him and ran over him. Smashing his helmet. He died a day later while in a coma.

We were driving by the scene after it happened but didn't realize who it was because the bike and he were so mangled. We offered help but plenty including the rescue squad and police were there.

Now new bs pops up.

sorry, but had to let some stress and steam out.

I know we all have our share of problems. I wish the very best for everyone of you. Of course feel free to let your stress out here anytime. It helps. some.

hope your brother can get the rehab that he deserves....it's really awful when stuff like that happens because there is so little that you can do - my mother in law had a severe stroke last fall and is home but with very limited mobility and little use of one arm - really wish there was a magic wand out there that you could borrow to repair people......hang in there. I am sure that all of the things you have done for your mom and your brother have meant a lot to them...if there is reincarnation, maybe you'll come back as a cat in a warm sunny climate with lots of places to stretch out in the sun....or as a chimp in a sex crazed herd of monkeys who are always "interacting" in the trees! Spring is almost here, and except for the pollen it always makes me feel good and appreciate what I do have have.

Maybe the lawyer can get things moving with the expenses and your brother can get his leg revised properly. Just that would be a load off I'm sure.

Keep hanging tough, realize you and him both can get through this and there will be better days ahead.
I know that's hard to do sometimes, but things do change , for the better.

You have lots of friends here that are always available to listen to a good vent :)

Take care buddy ;)

Some things just don't seem right

I don't know what to say other than to do everything you can for your family members. Things will get better down the road.

I remember waking up in intensive care back in 1983, from a motorcycle accident I don't remember at all. One minute I'm riding down a major street, the next thing I know I'm in the hospital. Broken wrist, major concusion, and broken ankle. An "assigned risk" woman in Southern California had ran a stop sign and I hit her broadside - from what the witnesses say. The only good to come out of it was me proposing to my girlfriend (multiple times). I have long-term mobility issues with my right wrist, but at least I have partial movement.

Just got word today that my dad passed away last night. Completely unexpected. He just turned 74 on Saturday. Had to leave work and rush down to San Diego for the arrangements, and to comfort his wife who still could not believe it. She's 54.

My dad re-married back in the late 70's, and I have 2 half brothers and 1 half sister. They are all in their early 20's. I'm just glad it went quick for my dad. The guy never saw a doctor, dentists, or even been in a hospital for any reason throughout his life. He even worked up to a week before he passed on. You just never know when it will happen.

I hope your bro pulls through Mike. Must be very painful for him. Hopefully he's not depressed about life in general.

Wow, my condolences Charlie.
Mike, I'm also sorry to hear about all of your brothers troubles too. I know that circumstances like that aren't easy to deal with and I hope that things improve for both of you in the near future.

hey Executioner, my dad died at the young age of 52 by a massive heart attack a few years back. i'm sorry for your loss. the one thing that comforts me to this day is knowing he went quickly and didnt suffer. i'm hoping that will be some sort of strenght and in a sense some relief in times to come.

Blade: Have your bro talk to his lawyer. See if the outfit in Colorado will take lien on the settlement rather than require cash up front.

Another tactic - threaten to pull the file from the lawyer. If there is no dispute about liability the attorney is likely not pushing that hard to settle because your bro has not reached a medical endpoint. This case sounds like found money to me. His lawyer does not want to lose the file.

Push for settlement. It is in your brother's best interest in terms of dollars to wait because his bills will get larger and the more injured he is, the more money he gets. Also, once you settle, that is it and you can't go back to the well for more money for new med bills. The other side, of course, wants to delay. You always have to balance this against the desire to settle now.

Did your brother have his own motorcycle policy? If he did, his policy's med pay coverage is usually obligated to pay no matter whose fault the accident is. Of course, his med pay may have been used up by now, but this is worth looking into.

Motorcyclists should pay for huge med pay coverage before they ever get on a bike...

Has your brother applied for Social Security Disability? This is another potential source of assistance.

Executioner: I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My dad's passing was very very hard for me. My thoutghts are with you.
