30 years since Elvis died.

Post by blade »

He would of course be 72.

I remember the day he died, on a Friday. I was wearing an Elvis t shirt bought from a concert of his earlier that year. Didn't know till I picked up my g/f that day.

Love him or hate him. He WAS the man! :yo

"Elvis is not dead, son. He just went home."
Christians warn us about the anti-christ for 2,000 years, and when he shows up, they buy a bible from him.

If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead.

...and now for something completely different:

I'm not an adoring fan, but I like Elvis' EARLY rock-a-billy stuff - the stuff they NEVER play on the radio. Not the crap he started singing after the movies and when they turned him into a strutting stage pimp.

Do an MP3 search for "Promised Land". The only reason you'll find that one is because it was on the "Men in Black" movie sound track album.

Wanna know why? Elvis made a movie with Ole blue eyes g/f (GI Blues co-star Julliet Prowse)during which they are "said to have an affair. Several times. Rumour has it Sinatra put out a hit on Elvis. Plus Elvis was outsaellling him bigtime so I assume common jealousy was also a part.

And later it was said Elvis had another affair with sinatra's daughter, Nancy (these boots are made for walking). During the making of Speedway. Which really got to him.

Doh! You are right Q. Clumsy me getting the dates screwed up. Guess it was because instead of having Elvis week last a normal week this year it was to last 9 days. They do that every year at his home during the week of his death. Across the street is a mall with all Elvis things, Elvis' jets, etc..
Not the crap he started singing after the movies and when they turned him into a strutting stage pimp.

That was the damned manager parker doing that bs. Though I did love many of them like Girl Happy, Viva Las Vegas, Clambake. Parker even turned down a I think the Hoffman role in Midnight Cowboy. Or maybe the Voight. Forget which.

After he stopped doing the movies, his music improved. Some huge hits like Burning Love, Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, In The Ghetto, Polk Salad Annie, My Way (his last released song, coincidently originally recorded by "ole blue eyed". Elvis' version outsold blue eyed.

As John Lennon once said, "Before Elvis, there was nothing".

they turned him into a strutting stage pimp

As it so happens many many people loved Elvis even more during those years. All his concerts were sold out. Took me a while to get use to it, but he sang some great emotional songs. Like American Trilogy and many others.

And "street pimp"? Friend, I happen to have always liked E, he is dead, at least show some respect. No reasons for words like that. k ;) Obviously that's what you thought, but many others did not. His concerts were fun and he had fun too. The concerts were mostly his idea. Not "they", or parkers.

Go here to see that many of his songs are still played in current movies. As you said. He isn't dead. He just went home. I know because I saw him at taco bell a few weeks ago. True story. :)

Maybe I'm still living in a time warp.

He had far more hits during that time than just Promised Land. As I mentioned above. MP3 searches bring up many Elvis tunes and albums. From all the years he sang.
