Truly sad news and truly a gray time for all of Michaels family and friends, of which he has many, as Blade has helped many people that usually were at their wits end.

Blade was always my go-to guy here when working on Troll matters, Michael was always there to help those that were in desperate need of help.
Even though this might be belated some, as Michael passed in March, My condolences to Michael's family. Blade was and always will be known as a good man. He will be missed by many.

PS, I can see Blade guarding heavens door's, making sure all Trolls get a fair trial to see if they deserve to go to heaven, knowing Blade, I'm sure he's doing a good job up there. Image

I am quite shocked. Blade always had a kind word for everyone that posted here, was always concerned about the members and their problems, and was always happy for you when you shared good news. Now, it is my turn to return the favor.

May you be with the ones that you love and know that people will miss you here. I hope you're enjoying the eternity that you earned here on Earth. I'll pray for your family.

WOW, This is a shock. Blade was a great guy and I got to know him fairly well in the short time I've been with PCA. He will be saddly missed, but remembered for his fine personality and friendly attitude to all of us old and new members alike. May he rest in peace.

Hi, all. I'm Harvey, long time AnandTech Moderator/Admin who posted <a href="http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... id=2194924"]http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview ... 94924>this tribute thread on AT's For Sale/Trade forum</a>. I think Mike created an account for me a long time ago because, when I tried to register under my usual nick, I got a message that the name was taken so I started this account as Harvey R.

Sorry I haven't posted, here, before now, and I'm even more sorry it's on this sad occasion. :(

I hope you don't mind that I wanted to post the same tribute, here, so here it is.

Michael Lee Valley, 1957 - 2008[/align]
My good friend and Internet hero, Michael Valley, aka blade is gone. <a href="http://www.legacy.com/salisburypost/Obi ... bituary</a>

I don't know where to start with this. It's a long story. I hope you'll stay with it.

When Anand made me the first AT Mod, and I needed a Mod crew, I started with guys I knew and trusted to have the desire, the temperment and the personal integrity to do the job, some of whom are still with us to this day.

Michael was one of our earliest additions to our original mod crew, and he aquitted himself admirably. Later, while I was talking with Anand and Jason Clark about setting up a closed forum on AT's server where our crew and mods and admins from other forums could share info about trolls, Michael stepped up to the plate and established the Troll Hunters' site to do exactly what was needed without having to deal with the politics of it being under the auspices of one major forum site.

AFIC, that, by itself, would have been enough to put Michael in the Internet Forums Hall Of Heros and Champions.

I had my hands full as lead Mod/Admin, here, which left me little time to participate, there, but our Troll Hunter mods know how I shared info from our database to help the cause from our end, and mods from other trading forums knew about both of us long before our Mods' identities were made public.

But Michael didn't stop, there. He was an avid troll hunter. Even after outside demands forced him to cut his time on AT way back, I kept his mod account active so he could monitor our troll discussions and contribute as he could... and DID. He and I worked hand in glove to keep our TTA list on FS/T and his TTA list on PCA in sync and up to date. Even most of our most senior veteran mods may not know how close we worked through back channel e-mails to nail and jail some of the worst troll thieves on the web.

One day, Michael told me his mom was very depressed because she was losing her sight due to macular degeneration, which also afflicts my mom. I recall being in the shower one day with the radio on NPR news and hearing a piece about a new treatment called Macugen that had just been approved that day, that, for the first time, not only halted macular degeneration but, in some cases, actually restored the victim's vision. I finished my shower, immediately booted up and searched Google for info, sent him as much as I found, and suggested he should ask his mom's opthamologist about it.

He did, and the first pleasure was when he got back to tell me the news had raised her spirits, and it was one of the greatest pleasures of my life to learn that her doc checked into it and put her on the treatment, and IT WORKED! She actually got some of her vision back. My mom did the same, and her doc put her on another, similar developing drug which also stopped her macular degeneration. Sometimes, miracles really do happen. Sometimes, the good guys win one.

There are no words that can come close to describing how good it felt to know that one news article and one e-mail achieved so much good. I still tingle all over just remembering it.

blade -- You were a good, good man. I will remember. You will be missed. :(

Wow. I never thought I'd be returning to PCA under such sad circumstances. sbp must've seen my b'day alert and thought to inform me of blade's passing. I see that he passed on St. Patrick's Day, so drinks are on the Man upstairs!

I know it's been ages since I've been around - last login 6-14-05(!) - I frequently am reminded of my times here and AGN, back back BACK in the day. Raymond Kim, the Natalie Portman-obsessed bloke whose tag - "Fuzzybarf: The Original Gangsta Gangsta" - I still occasionally smile to myself about. I see old AIM contacts whom I've long lost touch with logging on and off, but never delete them from my lists.

Hope all has been well with Team PCA. I've had some ups and downs. but who doesn't? Cheers to all. R.I.P. blade.

Edit: Scrolling thru the thread, I can't believe how many handles I still remember and are still keeping the faith here.

Anyone here know ANYTHING about what happened to him (cause)? If anyone knows and would rather keep it on the quiet side, please PM or email me.

As for that article above:
He was a self-employed computer programmer.

True? He told me years ago that he sold Real Estate and was also a part-time wedding photographer.

Man... This is sad. Blade was a great guy. I wish I had known him better.
Strange, but for me, when visiting or being a part of forums, you almost think the person on the other end of a message post, will always be there.
Then something like this brings you back to reality.

I'll always have that chimp avatar in my head when thinking of Mike.
He was too young to go so soon.
RIP Blade :(

Good to see a lot of familiar members still carrying the flame. Hope all of you are well.
Thanks Sean (sbp) for getting in touch with me about this.

i was aware he was trying to make a living as a computer tech. he said he closed down his commercial real estate company because there were tuff times in the market.and he didn't sell residential property's. i also know he was a wedding photographer.but the last couple of years he didn't seem to do much in that field. i talked to mike more then a couple of times on are cells. he was a comic i remember a photo he sent me once and said play waldo and find me im in there. only hint he gave me was he ware glasses .
he also invited me to his home last year .this was not like mike as he never invite anyone to visit . wish i would of been able to done that now.
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help
