Adopted new family member...

Post by Lmandrake »

I lost a beloved pet last fall to leukemia. I've always been a dog person, but my departed cat turned me around on cats. It took a year to feel comfortable getting another cat and some additional time to decide to take on the responsibility after 28 years of raising dogs, cats, fish, and kids, but my girlfriend and I decided another kitty was a commitment we can handle and still enjoy our empty nest lifestyle. So we went the shelter and adopted Mr. G.

He's a trip. Into everything, smart as hell and happy to be out of the shelter. I'm still a dog lover, but we both felt we could still have our lifestyle and take proper care of a less dependent pet. A cat makes a house a home.

He's definitely a he. About 15 months old, we have had him for about 6 weeks. He was skin and bones when we got him, he's really filled out. Don't know how he got to the shelter, he was not abused as he is not timid or rattled by much of anything. He was in a really nice shelter with lots of volunteers who cared well for the animals. He just didn't eat much there. My girlfriend was more reluctant to get him than I was. Now, however, he OWNS her. Very funny.

I would definitely keep that cat away from the keyboard, looks like he's capable of anything!

My cat is at time a source of great companionship to me. She still doesn't like my new apartment that much, being pretty much an outside cat, but the found a place to hang out in the back where she can still be queen of the jungle. She meets me everyday when I pull in from work. :)
