New JOB!!! Yeah! :)

Actually, I made my final decision Friday night but still, I'll call it a Christmas present. Giving my 2 week notice first thing tomorrow morning.

Let's see....FAR less stress (the main reason I'm leaving), better pay, easier cars to work on (Toyota vs Lexus) and less than 1/3 the distance from my house w/o ANY rush hour freeway traffic problems.
I use to work with the guy who's now the service director there when he was a tech 30 yrs ago and he hired me on the spot, as soon as I filled out their online app a few weeks ago when I was pissed off about my job one night and happened to look online. I also know another former Lexus tech from where I work who's been at this Toyota dealer a couple years now and says it's much better in comparison. The place has techs and other employees you've been there for over 30yrs, almost unheard of in the auto business so it's a no brainer. I'm looking for a place I can retire from (now being 55) so I think I found it.

Good for you!

My job is "unsure" at this point also. Most of our MFG has moved to Costa Rica. I've been in the metrology/calibration field all my life with 35 years under my belt. Since I work primarily in the medical and pharmaceutical industries, if I get let go next year, I plan to use my skills as a consultant. Since I'm 56, I would like to wind down also in the next few years.

As for Christmas, watching my 7 year old grand daughter open presents, and my son-in-law his expression when he saw his gift - a custom made work bench made out of wood with a electrical power strip that runs the entire length of the bench - 6 feet.

Me - I received some new shirts and a DVD/CD organizer. Wife noticed that even though I'm an organized person by nature, and I have my stuff cataloged via WhereIsIt, she bought me this cool portable organizer.

Congrats Exec, I'm starting to look around myself for similar reasons.

I had a pretty good year for presents.
Wife: Final Fantasy Symphony Tickets
In-laws (like me): $50 VISA card, $20 AMC theater gift card, & Elder Scrolls Skyrum (like me a lot)
Bro. & Sis. in-law: $25 AMC theater card
Daughter: Pictures of zombies & creepers in Minecraft & deodorant (hint?)

Here's the pictures I received. On the left, is a me being blown up by a creeper & on the right is a zombie next to a enderman.

No Grandchildren here yet nor is that going to happen anytime soon BUT our son (who's 27) did finally move out this month so maybe his odds will improve now that has a 'swingin' bachelor pad'?

Sorry to hear about your work situation Exec, there I thought you had a secure job but I guess these days, no one's totally safe anymore.

Sorry I went kinda OT in this thread as it's not really a Christmas gift per-se but I thought I'd update my status here rather than start another thread.
I gave my old manager at Lexus 2 week notice monday morning, he wasn't happy. Was begging me to stay, promising me the world, etc and multiple times too. I held my ground as when I make up my mind, that's that. I don't play the "I quit game" as I've seen some do in years past.

So around noon, my new manager at Toyota calls me and says that he can give me my 2 weeks vacation and be on their insurance by 2/1 but they need me now (Wednesday vs 2 weeks). My old manager was really upset at first but later was cool and said that they'd be slow Tuesday so if I wanted, might as well move then. So, as I'm waiting for the tow truck to move my tool box, THEN he finally asks me what he can do to make things better for the other guys and I told him all sorts of stuff and what the problems are. He even seemed to care. WTF? Had he had actually asked me this years ago and done anything about it, I'd still be working there. He also said that if things don't work out, I can come back w/o losing anything, as if nothing ever happened so that's good to know. He'll probably be calling me in a week or so.

As of yesterday, I'm now at the new (to me) dealership and a mere 10 minute drive home too with 4 different ways to travel, w/o traffic problems ever.

A guy there was doing an airbag system recall on a RAV4, replacing the systems ECU (crash sensor) but failed to disconnect the battery (usually never a problem with the ign off on any car). When he unbolted it, all of the headliner side curtain bags blew! Was loud too, everyone was wondering what happened at first. Technically then it was the techs fault, and a Toyota Master tech too. Get this, the manager wasn't even pissed. Had that had happened to someone at Lexus, that guy would probably have to pay for the headliner and side curtain airbags out of his own money (or else). That's how it was there. Won't miss that.
