Authorities say a man accidentally shot himself in a home improvement store with the gun he was legally carrying.
WHMI-FM reports the 32-year-old man from the Livingston County community of Green Oak Township was shot in the buttocks Thursday evening at the Home Depot in Brighton. Police say it appears he was reaching for his wallet when he inadvertently grabbed the pistol and a shot fired.

I still fail to understand why people would want to carry one, especially in stores, etc.
I suppose some think that they could then be a hero if there's a robbery but the way I see it, it's not my store or my money so why put myself at risk?

Just because he was legal to carry doesnt mean that he was intelligent.
Alot of states the only requirement is that hes not a felon or addict and 50 bucks.
We dont call these accidents , we call it a neglegent discharge. 34 years of firearms handling has proven to me that guns just dont go off. Any weapon produced in the last 30 years or so due to multiple internal safetys just wont go off unless your finger is on the booger switch. So keep your finger out of the trigger guard until your going to shoot, and carry in a holster thats designed for the weapon. Its that easy. Also, one should not carry in condition red if your foolish enough not to know or be confortable with your firearm and gear.

I don't carry although I could if I went through the trouble of getting the permit but guns don't go off by accident. I can't believe charges weren't filed in this case. This was negligent discharge and I think you should lose your carry permit for a period of time if not permanently unless you can demonstrate the firearm was defective. I also think you should have to demonstrate proper handling and firing before you can get a carry permit.
