Maybe Time to Stop Using PayPal?

Post by Err »

I just tried to order the following Blu Rays from Sentai Filmworks (They are having a good sale):

[*]Canaan Complete Collection
[*]Chaika - The Coffin Princess Complete Collection
[*]Dream Eater Merry Complete Collection
[*]Engaged to the Unidentified Complete Collection
[*]Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya Complete Collection

I've purchased from them multiple times using PayPal. However, this time, it wouldn't go through. I checked my e-mail and found the following.
Your payment to Sentai Filmworks LLC on Dec 9, 2017 is pending . . .

To comply with government regulations, PayPal is required to review certain transactions. The payment you sent is currently being reviewed and we will complete this process within 72 hours. This review only involves this transaction and does not affect the use of your PayPal account.
For more information, see Government regulations and policies.
The Government regulations a policies is a dead hyperlink. I'm guessing that one of the Titles above triggered a bot that flagged the order. If I had to bet, it's either "Canaan" or "Coffin." However, 72 hours is unacceptable so I just payed with a credit card. This is the same card linked to the PayPay account by the way. It went through without issue. I e-mailed Sentai Filmworks and warned them about a possible duplicate order and made them aware of the issue. I also opened a case through PayPal that should be resolved by January 23, 2018. Wonderful.

Maybe it has to do with the specific names? Check out the links below:

It's probably the names but Paypal is lazy. I don't any real review was done because I got the following message today:
To comply with regulatory requirements, we had to decline this payment and refund your money.
I attempted to contact support through their ticket system 4 times. Each was met with a screen stating that something went wrong on their end and that I'd have to try again. The first ticket I tried to open that I thought got through didn't. I found an e-mail and contacted them.

In Contract, Sentai contacted me the next business day, apologized for the trouble, and confirmed that I only had one order in their system.

This is interesting. They were fined $7.7 Million: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ve ... 5ebde34b97

So now they use this list: https://www.treasury.gov/ofac/downloads/sdnlist.txt

I found the word Caanan in the list. It's really sad that PayPal doesn't have real people review things. A real person could plainly see that this is an anime being sold from an anime publisher along with other anime.
