I didn't see this on the news yesterday. it could be that its a design fault or subpare material. at this point it just a guess . but in the last month the building department , the city's chief building inspector, Larry Chan, was suspended after a federal probe of corruption allegations against his department.

Yeah, that doesn't just happen unless someone cut corners somewhere, or perhaps the crane slammed a load into a supporting column. It'll be interesting to see what the investigation finds out.
