Did you know that each balloon at the Thanksgiving Day Parade has an NYPD supervisor assigned to it? They train with @Macys to ensure the safety of everyone.

In Orlando, Universal has their parade with big balloons as well. We volunteered one year to work the ropes and guide an elf. Those things are not that easy to maneuver through streets. When the wind picks up, they will pull hard against those ropes and test you. I can only imagine how bad that '97 parade was. We had light winds and it still required a lot of work.
This was our group. I'm the last one on the elf's right side, responsible for clearing the lamp posts and signs. I'd yell out to the others who couldn't see the elf behind them. LOL

Yeah, we looked ridiculous as hell but we had a lot of fun trying to keep that stupid elf on track.
