Weird shit. Sitting on the porch yesterday morning, reading my tablet, drinking my coffee, and suddenly there's a big irregular oval in my left's eye vision. I can see fine inside and outside the oval, but the edge looked like thousands of prisms flashing, and I could not see anything through the edge.
Waited 5 minutes and then called my eye specialist who checks me every year for a thin retina condition. I've never had a detached retina, but I have a thin one that might be prone to it, and they have warned me to call immediately if anything strange happens, and this is about as strange as it gets.
From my description, the triage nurse said she thought it was an ocular migraine, which usually passes in 10 - 15 minutes, but they squeezed me in for an emergency appointment this morning for tests.
Sure enough, the problem went away after about 15 minutes with no lasting effects. Spent all morning having tests done, including photos of my retinas while a dye was injected into me.
Good news is that the doctor sees nothing wrong, and wants to see me in four months, but I should call if it happens again because a frequent ocular migraine is a possible indicator of a predisposition for stroke.
Fun Fact: Thank goodness they warned me about it, but I've been peeing day-glow yellow all day. The first pee after the exam, the toilet looked like the inside of a radioactive barrel in Half Life
For anyone who's curious. I guess I had Migraine with Aura as described in this article. No actual headache, although that sometimes accompanies one of these: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-con ... q-20058113

being a cluster headache suffer from about the time i'm been 14 . we know about the term ocular migraine the doctors would always ask me . if we see stars or a haze before the start of one. been to Eye Specialist , the Headache clinic in Ann Arbor -seen the specialist DR Shaper (guy who wrote a book that use to be on the back page of consumers report . he wanted to send me to the Cleveland clinic . (to see if cutting some nerve's ) in my face might help me . also been to Henry Ford headache clinic over the years . been lucky past some years no cluster headache .that is till this last summer they returned again mostly mild . still when I look back how I was able to run my company with them . part of my work was roofing and when they hit me it didn't matter if. I was on the ground or a roof. to this day I keep bottles of Excedrin extra strength in my cars glove box, desk and med kits plus the bathrooms med cabinets . always close if needed they come on so fast and leave quick but will hang on for 45 mins to 3 hours .its about the only thing we found that helps .they tried all kinds of meds to stop the pain and on sets nothing worked for me.

I get blood work done every 6 months. Nothing abnormal. Blood pressure is smack dab in the normal range all the time too, and heart disease/kidney disease/stroke/cancer is non existent in both sides of my family. However I do have a first cousin who also has a thin retina and hers detached a few years ago. The treatment for that now is air injected into the eyeball, and you have to spend 75% of the day facing down (special bed) so the air bubble in your eye presses the retina back in place while it heals. I think she had to do that for over a month. Hope it never comes to that for me.

Wow that would suck for a month.

One of my friends from high school recently went through that. She had to spend the day on some massage table looking bed, facing down. Felt bad for her.FlyingPenguin wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 4:41 pm I get blood work done every 6 months. Nothing abnormal.
