Well, even though may parents are only 45 & 46, they are both vets. Sometimes it's a little wierd when they get all these things about being a vet in the mail.

Why is it most assume being a vet means being old?

I'm not assuming about being old, just it seems a little wierd when my parents are vets....basically another part of my parents (that happend before I old enough to remember) that I didn't know about.
Even though half the time many places don't reconize my parents as being vets since they are so young. Seems sort of a dis-service to me.

Many places my parents worked at will make my parents work on Memorial Day/Veterens Day even though they should be honored for their efforts and since they have served their country. Makes me mad sometimes....
OK, rant over.

My grandpa was a gunner in a B-24 in WW2.

I'd love to sit down and talk with him about it but he never wants to. I could see why though. In fact, my Aunt made a website which you can view <a href="

my wife retired from Navy with 16 yrs, I was drafted during the nam years, did 2 and out. It's a side of life not to many know about anymore. Used to with the draft, most people knew more about the military and had someone close involved. Not the case anymore though. Anyway, got lots of time in places I never would have went to, including a couple I'd rather not......

My Dad ( R.I.P) was a navigator w/ a B-17 crew. They were based out of Norwich, England and flew bombing raids deep into enemy German territory in WWII. He was a Capt. in the Army Air Force. Those were some brave SOBs and I'm thankful for them protecting our freedom.
I on the other hand, was a draft dodging, peace creep who was a card carrying SDS member ( Kent State Univ. , early 70s) who thought the Vietnam War was all a bunch o' crap . While I admire and respect the peeps who served over there, I felt that little conflict was nothing more than an excersize for the military industrial complex to make money at the expense of some very precious lives. So sad.

The Vietnam War sucked but the Soldiers that fought there were our brothers. Like in all wars, many gave their lives for our freedom no matter how senseless the war was. Today is the time to honor those who gave all they had so we can enjoy the Freedom we have.

Amen to that, to all of my brothers that fought and died and to all of those who came back less than whole and to everyone who has proudly served his country, I salute you and thank you with all of my heart.
