I'm in limbo right now trying to decide what author to read next. I finished the major works of Terry Brooks, Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Piers Anthony, Tolkien, and Raymond Feist. I just started The Saga of Recluce by L.E. Modesitt Jr. and it's not really blowing my skirt.... er.. shorts up. I'm considering Tad Williams, The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, and the rest of Frank Herbert's Dune series although most people tell me it gets really bizarre. Anyone have some other suggestions?

go with the death gate series, I have them all in hardback, it's a great read that will keep you going back for th e next book. It gets a little strained as most series that long do but it is great. Also, check out R.A. Salvatores books, he writes one series called dark elf, it follows the "silver stream" forgotten realms series, it's a great series too.


You said you've read piers, did you hit the "on a pale horse" series? It's a great series too, don't miss it.

You may want to give Roger Zelazny and a series of books called The Chronicles of Amber a try, some of the best fantasy I have read.

You beat me to it Hammer Awesome set of books! Amazon had a paperback of the entire series for $20 a while back; you might want to check it out.

Will, I picked mine up from the sciince fiction book club like 20 years ago and I still read them once a year or so. Excellent stuff!

Anything by Robert Heinlein, Anne MacAfferey and of course Izacc Azimov (the Foundation series should keep you busy for a while).
The "Pale Horse series" ... better know as the Incarnations of Immortality series by Piers Anthony is great but if you're looking for pure sci-fi you'll also want to be sure to read the Cluster series.

I had an original (first printing) set of the first two volumes; unfortunately I can't find them. Had a hankering to read it again, so I got the paperback from Amazon.

and of course, the collected works of hp lovecraft

There's a series I enjoyed(its scifi tho, not really fantasy). Its by Timothy Zahn. Its called the Conquerors' series. Conquerors' Pride, Conquerors' Heritage, Conquerors' Legacy. Its a trilogy. Pretty good books. I read these a long time ago now.

You said you read Terry Brooks. Did you read the Magic Kindom of Landover series? that was pretty good(besides all the shannara books).

David Eddings is a great author. The Belgariad and The Mallorean series are great, love the new approach to wizardey. the Elenium and the Tamuli series are fanastic too, very clever and fun to read

The origonal Dragonlance is fantastic too, Dragons of Autum Twilight, Winter night, and Spring dawning

R.A Salvatore is a great author, his Forgotten Realms books are good, read the Dark Elf saga, an excellent series

Robert Jordan is good, I really like the wheel of time books

Great suggestions!! I had forgotten that I read the Belgarade series by David Eddings. It was good but didn't draw me into the characters like Goodkind or Jordan. I read the Shannara series but I haven't read the Landover series. I'll be sure to check it out. I've never even heard of Roger Zelany. Another one to add to the list. I used to read sci-fi but for whatever reason I stopped enjoying it. I liked the series by Orson Scott Card starting with Ender's Game but it got too philosophical and bizarre as the series progessed so I gave up. I've seen tons of material by Salvatore but never picked up anything of his. Ahhh!! Too many choices!!

Well IMO you can't beat J. R. R. Tolkien. Lord of the Rings was one of the best trilogys ever written. Issac Asimov was great until he tied the Foundation novels and the Robot novels together. but the earlier works are still worth reading. I also agree about the Chronicle of Amber novels, they are excellent. I wish I could find the novels concerning Corwin's son, but the SciFi book club didn't have them the last time I checked. The Dune novels by Frank Herbert are also great and the first three books rank right up there with Lord of the Rings. I dig them out every so often (especially God Emperor of Dune) and read them again. The two new books by his son and another writer (forget his name) [House Atredies and House Harkonen] are also pretty good. Terry Brooks' Shanara series of books are also excellent.

MAC, I have read 2 of the books with Corwin's son and they are just not as engrossing as the original series, don't get me wrong they are good, but I sat and read 300 pages of the original series non stop. I then slept and finished the series (this was during a summer vacation while I was still in school oh so many years ago), and I loved every word of it. Solstice I might suggest the Anne Rice Vampire series, especially Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned.

Ahhh and how could I forget the Gunslinger series by Steven king. Seems I may have forgotten the face of my father.
