Band of Brothers

Post by blackhawk »

Just wondering if any comments on this. Saw a couple in my travels last year but the whole series is on up here in Canada right now and I'm up to #5 and really enjoying it. Its definitely a production with some reality issues but you cant be real and on TV at the same time.

This show probably appeals to a certain audience (me for sure) but I think the acting and the story line is excellent.

anyone else?

I loved this series. I don't know what you mean by reality issues, the whole series is based on true stories. I think it's definitely the best mini-series I've seen on HBO.

The reality issues with most military movies is the crowding together of the actors so the cameras can get everyone in the shot. In reality, I think of everyone else as a target so you keep your spacing so that mortars, mines etc. only take out individuals.

Real life explosions dont have flames unless gas is involved, just a puff of white or darker smoke.
The flames are added for visual effects by the special effects people by adding a flammable liquid or gas to the small explosion so it shows on camera better.

The bullet sounds are very good in this series, even to the differences in the sounds of the different weapons. The german weapons cycle at almost twice the rate of the allied weapons which is historically accurate. The norwegian reserves were still using WW2 german weapons up to 20 years ago that had been left behind in WW2.

I got a lot of respect for Spielberg & Hanks for putting this story out there.
