Question to all you JB Weld users

Post by DaMaN »

Will it work to patch a small rust inhibited hole in a muffler or exhaust system? If so how long will it last? Is this stuff to be used in small amounts or will it last better if I put on a generous amount?

You'd be better off using some Aluminum tape or muffler tape than you would using JB Weld. Not sure if it will work with the muffler or not.. GL!

I used it to patch a small hole in a tailpipe once and it lasted about two months. But the hole was small and had solid metal all around it. I had some extra from something else I did and just smeared it on. Worked for a while...

I have holes in the muffler and the Y pipe from the manifold. The Y pipe has a inline built in catalytic converter so it is very expensive. Just want it to last until I can save up the money fop all.

I seriously doubt that JB Weld will last very long that close to the manifold. The pipe will simply get too hot for JB. It releases it's bond at about 400*F, although the web site says it works up to 500*F.

Look on the bottom right-hand side of that site. It says, "Not recommended for use on manifolds, exhaust systems, and other engine components which normally operate at temperatures above 500º F."

I haven't used this epoxy, but it is supposed to be good for higher temperatures. I don't know how well it would fill a hole though.
