thermostat replacement on my Acadia

Post by reno »

How stupid are todays GM Engineers . on my 2021 GMC Acadia SLT front wheel drive with a v 6 - 3.6 engine. the jobs a royal pain in the ass. calls for 6 hours labor. you have to remove the intake manifold off just to get to the thermostat . there also about $550-$600 in parts so at todays labor rate's
for a repair shop and not the dealer . your talking between $600 to $900. just labor . some dealers around me are at $225 per hour labor only.
it sure not like it was when I was young and do my own thermostat replacement on my cars. those mostly were v-8's . it was just remove 2 or 3 bolts off the thermostat housing and install a new unit add a new cork gasket with permatex . in 20 to 30 minute you were back on the road .
sure glad we took out a extended warranty and its picking up the tab on this repair. the car only has like 42,000 miles on it . :smackme

I miss the old days when I can work on my 1971 El Camino. Everything was easy to get to. Parts were inexpensive. I have a 2024 Honda Pilot Elite and I would not even consider even changing the oil now.
