CA, you can get a reasonbly priced Sun tach for under $50. They come with pretty decent instructions on hookup.

Is it somjething a novice such as myself could do? I mean i know how to hook stuff up to the battery, syllanoid (sp?), etc. But where do I plug it?

CA, 3 or 4 wire connections and mounting of the tach. One is probably the #1 spark plug connection, to get the firing rate for rpm. Dont remember the other connections. You can probably do it. If you don't want to tackle it, any garage would for you, for about an hour's labor charge.

Most tach's have four wires
Power +12V switched
Light, connect to a switched wire from the head lights
ground, connect to must anything metal
trigger, that connects to the coil.

I went to go install it and guess what. My car is distributerless and I am completely CLUELESS how to install it. It's not as simple as plugging it to plug 1. Nope because when #3 fires it uses #1 as a ground. Grr...and when that happens my tach will explode or so it says it will if the rpm signal wire is grounded. Grr. Help?

what kind of tach did you get? Do you have a 4 or a 6?

I dont have a wiring diagram for your car, but there is a tach signal wire coming from the igniton module (located under the coil packs). Its been too many years since I've been in a garage, else I'd be able to tell you which one!

Well I got it hooked up. I found a diagram and hey look, theres a tach signal wire thaty goes right into the dash. Guess they were too cheap to put the tachometer in there :) Works great now. Thanks guys/girls
