Ford Expedition - any other kind like it with the same external chassis (Yukon?)

Post by plucky duck »

My pops has a GMC Safari Ext AWD right now, and looking to get something better. He dislikes the amount of engine noise that's coming from the front. The Expedition and Yukon seems to have the kind of body he's looking for, with a big roomy hood, so engine noise is prolly less than that of the Safari (anybody own both and can confirm this?).

I know of a few that use the same body as the Expedition, namely the Yukon and Lincoln. Any others? The Expedition is a NICE SUV, but the price is kind of steep, even for a basic configuration @ $40,000Cdn (ouch!!).

The Explorers are too small for our likings. We need something that can fit 6-8 people, and still have room at the back for long hauls.

Who here has an Expedition or Yukon? What's your experience with them (handling, acceleration, power, steering, etc...)

Thx.

the smaller SUVs actually look lik SUVs, but the larger ones seem to look like an extended Ford truck with ad added hood :)

GMC?

What about the GMC Deneli (I know it's not spelled right but.....) if you're not into Fords?
It's the cheaper version of the SUV that Cadillac uses for their costly beast (nice but over $50K).
I think it'll still be about $40K by the time everything's said and done. That's not uncommon these days for large SUVs.

The expeditions are nice, the 5.4 is ok, but if Gm is your flavour the monster in the suburban hauls!!! but fit and finsish wise, the expedition does it for me, very nice overall, later in life i plan to own one :)

My mom's friend has a 98 Expidition eddie bauer edition. ITs sweet.. ITs real quiet in the cab and rides very good for a large SUV. I had a 97 F-150 and it was pretty quiet in the cab don't hear much motor noise unless you really have your foot into it.. But then i had dual exhuast with 18inch glass packs put on it so the quietness then left it :) But damn it sounded schweet!
