White paint opinions, Pearl white vs white?

Post by EvilHorace »

I've decided to take the plunge and get my car repainted this winter being that its present paint job sucks (was a low buck paint job done by previous owner which is obvious when seen up close) and the body needs to be smoothed out a bit (some imperfections, door dings, etc, NO rust or "obvious" bondo however).
I work for a dealer so we deal with a local body shop and I know and trust the owner, he's also done some work for me (painted my Cervinis hood, etc), they do good work but I've never had a car totally repainted before. He said it'll be basically time and material and that I'll save a bit by first removing all the trim bolt ons myself so after the new year, I'll begin with this. He'll have all winter to work on it too, just so I get her back by spring.
I'm keeping it white as changing colors is too much labor to do it right but some people I've talked to think that pearl white would "rock".
Before I go ahead with that, does anyone have any opinions on pearl white vs just "normal" white?

I say pearl. From what I've been told, Pearl means it *kinda* changes colors in different light, and I would have to agree. My car is India Red Pearl Metallic, so it looks really orange some days, red others. Under my street light, it looks bronze--it's interesting. And metallic just means it has metal flakes which make it kinda "shiny" I suppose. It looks nice though, so I'd think Pearl white would also.

Pearl will be much more expensive to repair. This may be less of a concern due to your connections, but generally there is a lot more labor in repainting and matching a pearl finish if you ever need a repair.

The car's also only used occasionally (a "weekend" car for the most part) so it's not likely to be a prone to minor body damage as an everyday driver.

I was at a "world of wheels" custom car show 2 weeks ago and saw a few nice pearl white cars there so I'm now convinced and that's my choice.
